* About impale and empale

From now on i will start writing down impale instead of empale since it confuses some people. They don't seem to understand that writing in english while you don't have english as a first language may produce some translation mistakes. This was not meant to be an english course.

* Some people where having questions about the main purpose of this teck. Was it meant for 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4?

When i first described the main build at the begining of the forum, this was meant to be a teck worth playing in 2v2 (my experience comming out from it). Since i also knew that this teck was reliable in some 1v1 matchups (maybe not for me since i don't play much 1v1 and may lack some APM) and could also so be used in 3v3 or 4v4 matchup. If you ever want to make this teck worth while in 1v1, 3v3 or 4v4, you got to adapt some of your own into it. You might want more ghouls or a quicker altar for example.

-----------------------------------------

I have uploaded 1v1 games versus Ne on "replayers" web site. 1 win and 1 loose for me as i play the undead aoe build. Good replays both and you will notice some difference from the 2v2 build described at the beginning of this forum.

--------------------------------------

1st game:

The ennemy:
- Goblin thinker + Pit lord as Ne
- Lvl6+ thinker abuse on the cliff

Me:
- Nice banshee drop at the end
- I got lame a bit cause i knew i was going for some kind of abuse
- Still interesting till the end with some lenght in the middle
- Was too greedy to buy a teleport and lost stuck up a cliff

--------------------------------------

2nd game:

The ennemy:
- Dh + Naga "they dont reach lvl6"
- Some bears with mass driads

Me:
- Tri hero (Cl/Pit/Lich) with lvl 6 Cl
- Good old banshee to necs versus ancient of lore trick
- My banshees get owned mid game
- Shades do the trick
- Nice come back with necs versus driads
- Close end match

Just sent online (replayers.com) a replay of me vs a hum with the AOE build. Hes not awesome but good enough. Il be monitoring some more games soon and will put them online. For those enjoying playing new stuff, i will describe some strategies with good working % including Cl/Pit as heros. This does not mean that i would always take Cl first especially in 1v1 because of his lack of movement speed and capability at harrassing.

Basically, i can resume the possibilities of taking Cl/Pit as heros a bit like this:

1. Vs Hum

The best build order in 1v1 when getting Cl as first hero (when taking empale) is to build a Crypt and graveyard first, then zigg and altar relying on 2 ghouls for wood to start with. Cl/Pit owns for AOE versus foots, rifflemans, sorcs and priests. This Mu gives a good winning % and play in favor of Ud.

- If he can quickly expo and you need to maintain pressure

--> Get Dk or Lich first would probably be a better idea followed by Cl/Pit

- If he cannot expo quickly and you can go out and creep

--> Get Cl first followed by Pit and Lich.

2. Vs Ne

If you start with Cl as first hero, i recommand going with Crypt and grave first. If you play Dk, you could make either builds. Cl/Pit owns 1st tier units and is also great versus bears. It also makes it easier to possess bears since empale gives some time to banshees. The main problem versus Ne is that it depends on the hero you play versus and you usually dont know wich hero he's gonna take. Usually the main heros for Ne will be Dh and Warden wich is getting more popular.

- If he takes Dk as first hero

---> Getting Dk would be wiser since the Cl's empale costs a lot and he wont be effective if he gets drained out. Afterwards, taking Cl and Pit is a decent choice. On the other hand you can still have a good shot at winning if you play Cl first and manage to empale and surround Dk when he comes in first place to harrass you.

- If he takes Warden as first hero

---> You could still go with Dk as first hero. Harrassing wisps usually works great. Cl as 1st hero followed by Pit and lich is also viable for this Mu.

I will send another post soon to discuss about Orc and Ud mirror Mu.

Just everone remember: hes probably azeroth/lordaeron. I doubt he would get 5-0 in northrend with that

tbh, i dont think the community on gg.net/wc3(myself included) is mature enough to listen and comment positively on these kinds of strats 8D

Speak for yourself #48, I really like the idea behind this strategy and I think it has the potential to catch players off guard. I applaud Moontracker for coming up with something so off the wall. I will be trying this strategy out because it seems fun, CL builds are just fun in general. How about we support our fellow UD players so we won't be considered to be the worst race in the game. Perhaps this will be the next great strategy, perhaps it won't. We will never know if we don't even consider it.

Well u can easily tell the creator of the strat is a noob, any1 suggesting 1 strat vs any race is a noob.
A good player have a great arsenal of strategies, and hardly does the same strat vs any race, furthermore u do know disenchant stops the casting of possession and resets it?
So does mass dispell, or detonate, point: a good player can easily spam those spells a little on ur banshees, while he nukes em down 1 by 1=suddenly the plan of taking over an army, ends up feeding a hero.....=GG

#54 As you've said, 1 and only strategy for every race is noob. This was not what i was trying to provide here. Scouting is the key of building the best suitable army possible. In 2v2, one can rely on banshees most of the time (especially versus orc and ne). In 1v1 things are different.

Every strategies relying on magic can fail. Banshees work great in 2v2 but they are not necessarily the key in 1v1...

-----------

Versus Ud, if he goes aboms, they are great, otherwise they are worthless. Undead fiends have long reach that will most probably kill banshees before they are done possessing and other units are too weak to be worth the possess. I always play classics in mirror match (Lich first with ghouls-gargs or fiends and then aboms-dest with 1-2 wyrms.)

Versus orc, they do rock (grunts, riders and taurens), the main problem is that blade master will most obviously scout and know what you are planning to do. On the other hand, as i have said before, Cl gives an enormous chance that banshees will efficiently possess before they are stopped thanks to impale. Of course, one can dispel them but the window will most probably be very small. If you can make it a surprise attack, chances are it will actually be accurate and if you do success in possessing 2-3 riders, you will take down blade master easily. Also, one can counter walkers with a DR so that they are silenced and cannot stop the possessing process before it is done.

Versus human, taking Cl and Pit owns in maps where human cannot expo quickly. Otherwise i play classic DK, Lich or DR. Banshees are not recommended because the units are usually not worth the possess and hum will most probably make some mortars. I prefer massing fiends to destros with 1-2 wyrms and/or aboms.

Versus Ne, Cl-Pit is oh so great versus Warden (but not as much versus DH) since he will usually make a lot of archers wich will get nuked by the AOE. Banshees cannot be efficiently stopped by a Ne. If you see wisps coming the way, impale-rain of fire will thorn them apart before they can dispel. I barely never miss my possessions on bears. Banshees will also be very useful if he goes panda because of anti-magic shell. I usually make fiends and banshees with 2 statues to counter bears. Then, when the ne changes production to mass driads, i adjust and make mass ghouls with wagonmancer and aboms.

This might give you a better idea of my arsenal. Thanks for the replies. I guess even tho most people don't really know what they are talking about, it is great to hear from. I suggest some people really try it out at a pro level and come back after testing it out. As #54 stated, theres not 1 teck versus every races, build yourself an arsenal. Undead players are the underdogs right now and if blizzard really made all they could to balance this game up, there still must be some new ways to counter efficiently the MU that are today imbalanced.

Undead players are struggling versus orc nowadays. Is there any ways ud can regain their spot? I don't say this kind of build can work out over 50% of the time but it as decent chances to work out great if the Ud player can make it to tier3 without loosing too much tempo. Actually, in my opinion with such a build, if the undead player does not loose too much of his tempo, he will even have a better shot at winning the match than when playing a classic Dk, lich build with fiends.

As stated in the last post, banshees can do the work versus orc. On the other hand, how can you successfully possess when playing versus the classic orc build? Raiders cancel possess with ensnare, spirit walkers disenchant possess and Sh can ex at least one of them. Is it possible to rely on possess to turn the tides of this battle around? From what i have seen so far, some gosus tried out relying on banshees while playing Dk, lich without any good results. Banshees where used mainly for cursing the blade master (30% miss) but never proved to be efficent for possessing. The banshees with possessing ability are the most tide turning units in warcraft. Can someone be served by this against a gosu orc player?

To get a better insight of it all, i will try to make up a scenario where Orc meets a Undead AOE build with a 50 food army for a big fight (50 army and not 50 total because it would usually not be enough for Ud). This scenario shows the idea of relying on the Ud AOE build to launch those banshees. Theory-craft and real gaming is different but someone skilled can actually make it happen.

Part 1 __________________________________________

The scenario:

I take into account that:

- No one as expo (usually the case)
- Undead and orc have 11 food used for wood and gold gathering
- Orc does not have hh because of the AOE raping from Cl/Pit

Usually, orc will have better hero levels than undead and probably some more items in their inventory providing a good advantage.

With 50 food on army, the armies should look something like this:

----------------------
Orc

- Blade master and Shadow hunter (10 food)
- 4 grunts (12 food)
- 4 riders (12 food)
- 1 kodo (4 food)
- 4 spirit walkers (12 food)

Total: 50 food

*One could trade sw for raiders

----------------------
Undead

- Crypt lord, Pit lord and Dark ranger (15 food)
- 4 fiends (12 food)
- 2 obsidian statues (6 food)
- 1 destroyer (5 food)
- 5 banshees (10 food)
- 2 shades (2 food)

Total: 50 food

----------------------

Part 2 _________________________________________

Explaining why undead as such a set up:

Units:

- Shades are used to follow up your Cl and follow up his Sh. This will eventually help to kill the blade master. The shade following his army will provide an advantage when engaging battle. For instance, you will be able to order commands before engaging combat. With shift commands, make banshees curse then possess units.
- The destroyer is obviously necessary to dispel EX and to a lesser extand, spirit link. I doubt at gosu level, someone can go without it.
- The banshees are used to possess raiders and the kodo. Cursing units, especially blademaster, is also a good idea making him miss 30% of the time and allowing critical strikes to occur less often. Anti-magic shell is worthless since bm relies solely on physical damage.

Heros:

- Crypt lord as stated in earlier post is used to disable units (with impale) while rain of fire (Pit lord ability) and silence (Dark ranger) is used. It is also used to disable Sh and spirit walkers so that they cannot cast ex or disenchant during the possession process.
- Pit lord is used in conjonction with Cl to max up damage output. Usually, howl of terror ability is prefered over rain of fire especially versus orc. For my part, i only use rain of fire when i use pit lord in conjonction with Cl, otherwise i pick Howl of terror. Rain of fire is especially usefull to tear appart spirit walkers wich are immuned to physical damage while in etherall form. Versus orc, i suggest taking rain of fire 1st and howl of terror in 2nd.
- Dark ranger is used to silence Sh and spirit walkers. This will allow banshees to possess efficiently. I personally max out silence and get hp drain. Dark arrows are quite worthless versus orc and does not stack with orb. The Dark ranger will carry orb of corruption since it will be the ranged hero.

Part 3 ________________________________________

Engaging battle:

Engaging battle is probably one of the most important part and will tell between a win or a loss. To successfully launch the attack versus the orc player you must carefully follow those steps. This is not easily achievable since there is a lot of micro and i hardly recommand using custom keys to make it easier.
Succesfully achieving this chain of commands will most likely give the undead a win.

1- Since shades are tracking the ennemies army, order them to curse and then possess units with shift command just before engaging combat.

2- When first encountering the ennemy's force, start by launching a howl of terror (if Pl is at least lvl2) and follow up with a fire rain on the spirit walkers. If Sh as not already used Ex (usually he will wait until you start launching rain of fire and only then will he cancel out the concentration spell). If Sh uses Ex before you can impale him, counter Ex with the destroyer.

* Banshees should start possessing process about here disabling the raiders and preventing them from ensnaring your banshees and canceling possession or fire rain.

3- Follow up with a quick empale (ideally before Sh uses Ex on Pl and before sw's use disenchant on units being possessed) wich will eventually stun a lot of units with high damage output. Your main target should be Sh and spirit walkers.

4- While spirit walkers are stunned and are standing still, use silence with Dark ranger on those who have not been disabled (ideally, this should mute them all but it all depends on units clustering). By silencing sw's, you will be in a good position to pocess his raiders and maybe also his Kodo.

6- If you successfully possessed 2-3 raiders, start focusing the blade master and/or sh. Disable them with ensnare, silence and impale. Keep on doing rain of fire with impale on spirit walkers.

Steps 2 to 4 should take at most 3 sec if you do not need to use destroyer to remove Ex.

----------------------------------------------

This of course is what should happen in a perfect scenario. The accuracy with wich you will be able to possess highly depends on units clustering. If spirit walkers are not close enough to be silenced, some of your banshees will be stopped before they are done possessing (depending on how much clustered are the units being possessed and on the number of sw that have not been silenced). Since impale stuns a unit for 3 sec and possess takes 3 sec to be done, you should impale at most 1 sec after possession process as started.
Using Cl with Dr should usually result in possessing at least 3 out of 5.

lol a lot like the newb you are. Can't you come up with something intelligent for once? You cannot find words that must be because you are so retarded you can't understand even simple things. You can go lol with your Dk lich and still loose 60% of the time. This thread was actually about the Undead AOE build. This does not mean that this build is the most effective build ever... It works in maps where you got some free space, don't try it in echo isles...

Classic Dk, Lich with fiends as been overtested versus orc and it as never made the cut. At least, 40% winning at gosu level is not what i call a good way to beat orc when playing undead. In my opinion, the best way to beat orc in 1v1 versus undead, if you do not push before orc gets tier 2 units, is to rely on banshees. Curse is the best way to decrease the blade master damage output and possess will get rid of raiders and help out kill bm.

Since this thread was about Undead AOE build, i have described a way of playing it while relying on banshees. On the other hand, since Dk is by far the most popular choice while playing undead, and is easier to carry out until tier 3, i will describe the way of playing it while still relying on banshees. With this build, you must be able to get a Dr to at least lvl3 to have good chances of success. This means it depends on wich map you are playing on.

----------------------------------------------

Basic idea

As stated before, to efficiently launch possess, you must be able to disable spirit walkers (disenchant cancels possess) and raiders (ensnare also cancel possess). If you can also disable Sh it can just get better.

To be able to disable sw's, for at least 3 sec (time required to possess), you must have a Cl at least lvl3 or a Dr lvl1. Dr lvl3 has better chances of success because area of effect is bigger and you must silence all sw's in order to successfully possess all units. If you cannot disable enough sw's, you will probably fail and loose the match. I highly recommand having a lvl3 Dr.

Since raiders can also cancel possess, you must also disable them. Raiders are disabled by starting the possession process on them. They are the main units focused when using possess. This also means that to fully and efficiently disable raiders, you must have at least as much banshees as your enney as raiders. If you don't have enough banshees, the remaining raiders dill cancel possess and make you loose on the spot.

---------------------------------------------

Undead army of 39 food

- Death Knight, Dark ranger (10 food)
- 4 fiends (12 food)
- 1 obsidian statue (3 food)
- 1 destroyer (5 food)
- 4 banshees (8 food)
- 1 shade (1 food)

---------------------------------------------

Some tips:

- Keep banshees inside your town until you are ready to fight.
- Be sure that all your banshees have above 250 mana. If not send a statue near to fill them up before you go.
- As 3rd hero you can get a Cl to add up some disable.
