it's not a lack of creativity, it's just our cultural society who's reaching the end, as long our value, lifestyle or moral won't change, it's gonna be the same shit.
What we call "creativity" is in fact (in most of the cases) just a science based on consummation. We already exploited almost everything to make people spend their money, when you see company making the same shit since the 80th or 90th, it's obvious they didn't find better to do. And it is definitely not a good sign.
It's the same for movies, musics, sports, tv shows, video games.
The thing is we are almost all in this spirit "it was better before" which is true in a lot case or else i won't be playing starcraft anymore

And same as #0, i'm getting sick of that, when was the last time we really saw something ''new". I say the best is to take a plane your backpack and travel around the world.

for new experiences it would be nice
but most things are the same
like mass media
showing all good things on tv
all over the world
;-)

you get infected anyway

and there are so much things that can be new

but people just want the easy way without interest

Haha, #21, I think you're "jumping the gun" here a little bit
Classics are still being made in movies (The Dark Knight, LotR etc.), videogames (Starcraft, WoW (you can say alot of things about WoW, but it has DEFINATELY left its mark on the videogame industry, and that's what it's all about isn't it?), Oblivion etc.)
And regarding television, come on guys! Television have never been better! Look at these GREAT shows that HBO and Fox keep giving us! Prison Break, Dexter, Heroes, Lost etc.

And that's just movies, games and TV shows! We haven't even started with the modern day masterpieces within art, music or litterature. Since my knowledge of these cultural genres are somewhat limited I won't be enlightening you on that subject

But seriously, you pessimists need to lighten up and APPRECIATE todays culture.

classic is not new? but old!
jezus christ rofl
remaking a classic isn't new but old

same old concept
wow is just not new at all

check lineage 2 and metin 2 they are before WOW

and some other games i think everquest was the first MMORPG
but whatever

and for movies there are some alternatives i found out
but rarely
mostly some home country or not known movies
that never made it too hollywood

they have different story and i enjoy and appreciate them way more(not all) but i just like the concept that when i watch them i first think from what the fuck is this and later on when i get into the movie i am eager to find what is to happen
and mostly some unpredictable ending comes up with me having a good feeling
i was suprised to this ending

I hate to say it. Creativity doesn't pay of 99% of the time. Even if you put a lot of effort in it.

-Customers avoid risk.
-Investors avoid risk.
-People like things they are familiar with and concepts they know.
-To recognise the potential of something new requires a lot of time and attention. Most avoid this exertion. It makes their head hurt.

Most importantly. The settled leaders of the industry bully out the new competitors with: Money, lawers and heavy leverage on saleschannels.
Most new companies get crushed despite good ideas.

I know some folks who work free lance as artists and DTP and it is the sad reality. And some other folks who tried to become independent.

Ebb and flow. People are largely starting to look at creative games from independent developers that are NOT just the same thing. Be patient.

hmm what about blair witch project and cloverfield? the style of filming.

i dont think there was any movies beforehand, but they had an idea and took a risk with those movies, and the end result is probably 50/50 with regards to people liking it or not.

i liked blair witch project, but cloverfield sucked big time ( maybe i jsut had to see it in the cinema or smt )
so maybe the creators woulda got more success if they done their "plan b", who knows!?

I think you've said it right there.

I think that there is as much creativity as in the past. But you are looking in the wrong places...

More and more people get the chance to show their music to the world thanks to myspace for example. You'll never discover new music by just watching MTV. If you want to discover the new/creative stuff go visit music sites/blogs. There's a shitload of creativity out there!
Never in the past was there such a wide choise of music genres!

Making movies got cheaper over the years so more people get a chance to use theire creativity. Just dont go to your commercial cinema/videostore.
If you are bored with the classic hollywood movies I suggest you go to the play in a theater.

Not so long ago the Nintendo Wii came out. The games you can play on that console are pretty amazing. Anything is possible with that console!

People are looking in the wrong places. There are so manny beautifull things out there! You just need to find them and not fall for the commercial shit!

Commercial = Money = business.
business dont care about creativity.

Commercial is what most people want and most people dont care about creativity.
