Unconvential Strategies & Tactics (3339 reads, 45 replies)
Hi everyone.

I thought that I would make a post requesting any unconventional strategies or tactics (techniques) that you use and would like to share. I am the type of person that likes to do things outside of the box, yet am limited in my creative ability.

What would constitue as unconvential? Anything that you would not expect to see in watching a pro replay, such as unit selection, timing, creeping, build order, etc.

My one criticism of solo play, is that you know what your opponent is going to do 90% of the time, based on his race. It is very predictable and repetitive. The victory is therefore based on timing and micro.

One example I can think of is this:

Lately vs. NE on a small map I do this: Barracks, Altar, Farm, Farm. MK First! Scout with first footie. Once MK comes out bring with me 3 milita and all 4 footie to NE base. Upon our departure, begin LM. Surround and kill DH. If he drains your mana you should still be able to surround and get him. Continue pumping footies and tower at some location in his base.

It has been working. 3-1 since doing it. Overall I think I'm lvl 23, 65-50?

Does anybody have anything they want to share regardless of race or class?

I´ve seen orc burrows rush done vs elf @ TS... weird but works

burrows rush is very good
in elf miror on tr you can build you aow on the tavern and your moon to get naga haras then talons its old school xD also aow rush is good just go win one of the wisp and build aow on you opponents base then build more more more its fun. Again in mirors you can try Alchemist first (only him) its imba xD
now one very funny tower rush vs elf 3 of the starts peasant militia (to build the towers) and to the elf base 1 lummber mill last one in the mine then some peasants in them some for lummber. its cool but easy to stop if you know how if you play vs this for first time you can lose xD
orc vs elf late altar burrows infrotn some grunts shadow hunter, mill 3 towers go for t3 headhunters and come casters.

thats for now if i remember some others i will post ;)

Well, one strategy I could think of is NOT to press the A-button when you play elf. Would be very interesting to see a night elf player actually microing his/her units.

although i agree that NE is imba, you being beaten by several nightelfs doesn't make it on topic. And no that no nightelfs micro is actually not true.

it works pretty good, exceptionaly good vs rifles (or fiends), I use it quite often together with some dryads ;)

lol is it legal for an orc player to comment on micro, when in battle they seem to only use their blademaster.

and how do u explain blademasters killing orange creeps and getting items while lvl 1...

u knw what would be imba...dryads throwing nets like ur wolf boys...oh gawd...For The Tree :D

Awww cmon don't get me started on imba, specially when you play elf talking about orc ;)


Hint: Change your race icon to undead and then...

Edit: And lets not get off topic, this isn't really an unconventional strategy but just in case you are not familiar with it: Dual orc, both start with Sh and learn Ward, if you scouted and your enemy is massing harass them inmediately, if they aren't mass a click guys, creep while you normally tech to tier two, and one of your adds a war mill. If you got a tavern map, add a FL and a fifth grunt to the mix and tower push while one adds grunts raiders and the other a second barracks and some demos or whatever you need giving the context of the game. Works I'd say 55% of the time but gives you some sort of a surprise element :)

Build a 100 peasant army, miltia them and run for his base....I don't think U'll be able to win....but surely is unconventional.

What was Lyn's strategy when he beat Moon 4-0 in MGC?

Some say that Lyn used the range of his TC's Shockwave to halve the life of DOTT's while employing the handy Ensnare to keep DH away from burning mana. After several Shockwaves, the DOTT's were good as fucked and Lyn had a much easier time going in for the skill.

I'm not exactly sure so someone please confirm about the gosu strategy against the best NE ever.

Just DL the replays. I've seen them but it was quite some time ago now. He played quite standard but close to perfect got insanely strong TCs in some of the matches with high level and mana items. the "tactic" of avoiding mana burn is something everyone should try to do but you will get burned eventually and so did Lyn he just played really well and nothing to unconvetional IIRC.

I've been trying to find some use for the alchemist, but it has been not much good so far. Tinker is another hero I'd love to see used more.
