GSTL May Ro4 - Report

Match 1 SlayerS versus fOu

GSTL Ro8 Match 1
SlayerS4-3fOu
SouthKorea TaeJa<SouthKorea Leenock
SouthKorea GanZI>SouthKorea Leenock
SouthKorea GanZI>SouthKorea choya
SouthKorea GanZI<SouthKorea GuMiho
SouthKorea Alicia<SouthKorea GuMiho
SouthKorea MMA>SouthKorea GuMiho
SouthKorea MMA>SouthKorea sC
Game 1 ended without TaeJa continuing his all-kill streak. Leenock's control of the map was just too strong as all of TaeJa's drops would be fought back with ease by Leenock. The game would end with dancing Ultralisks in TaeJa's natural. The first game was a great example of how if a Zerg was left to tech on his own, Ultralisks would eventually come barreling down towards your base. Great Infestor defence was also very effective in stopping and even killing a few of TaeJa's drops.

The second game was another long TvZ, but this time Leenock was not able to repeat the same success that he had in the first game. Mainly due to going a different strategy, Leenock had a much harder time defending against GanZI without his Infestors. Leenock's Mutalisk provided a certain amount of map control and harass, but was not able to stop GanZI's late game push that ended the game. GanZI's second game lasted a longer than his first, but the result was just the same. In a pivotal battle against his Protoss enemy, GanZI was able to throw down several key EMPs from cloaked Ghosts that he had on the field. He would pull away from that battle with the supply lead which led to his eventual win.

GanZI's reign of terror did end when GuMiho was sent out by fOu. With early Banshees, GuMiho took an early lead and completely dominated GanZI in economy, positioning, and army. GuMiho won with relative ease as he caught GanZI out of position and just rolled his army right into GanZI's main to take the win. GuMiho's next win was against Alicia on Crossfire. Alicia was able to expand a lot earlier than GuMiho and even contained him to one base. However, GuMiho would even the game with several drops that circumvented Alicia's contain and from there it entered into the late game. Despite throwing down multiple well-placed storms, Alicia was not able to take a lead in the late game. With resources dwindling and a large Terran bio army outside of his base, Alicia was forced to GG.

GuMiho's fall would come in the form of another Terran. MMA would finally be sent out by the SlayerS team to take control of the match. MMA's bio army would come out on top, but not without a lot of resistance. The late-game would resemble a pro-Broodwar game with multiple drops and attacks happening all over the map. MMA would drop in two different areas, while GuMiho responded with Hellion harass. After the two large drops MMA took a huge lead that would never disappear. MMA took game six and it was down to a final game.

The final game would be a very close TvT. The entire game was very back and forth with both players taking and giving up leads with drops and pushes. MMA's drops were much more effective and it would be small things like that which helped win him the game. sC would flub a huge drop near the end of the game as well which gave MMA a huge lead in supply. MMA would deny sC a clutch win and take the match for SlayerS.

Match 2 MVP versus oGs

GSTL Ro8 Match 1
MVP4-2oGs
SouthKorea Genius<SouthKorea Hero
SouthKorea GuineaPig>SouthKorea Hero
SouthKorea GuineaPig<SouthKorea NaDa
SouthKorea DongRaeGu>SouthKorea NaDa
SouthKorea DongRaeGu>SouthKorea SuperNova
SouthKorea DongRaeGu>SouthKorea MC
oGsHero pulled a win out of a very close match in the first set. Both players displayed great blink micro as well as what late-game PvP could look like. Both players warped in Stalkers, Colossi, and even Archons. In the end though, Hero would come out on top just barely. The second game would end much quicker than the first. Despite the first PvP going into the late-game, GuineaPig made sure that the next would be a quick 4gate game. GuineaPig would take Hero by storm and tie the match even.

The second game for GuineaPig was not as easy as his first as oGs sent out NaDa to deal with him. NaDa rolled over GuineaPig with relative ease. The real story however was who was to play NaDa next. After taking an easy game off of the random player GuineaPig, NaDa met a much more challenging player in DongRaeGu. The match was quite even, but DongRaeGu demonstrated great macro and map control that even NaDa could not overcome. With a very convincing win against NaDa, a legend would be born in DongRaeGu. The next person on DongRae's list of players to defeat was SuperNova. Again, his ZvT was just unstoppable as SuperNova found out what NaDa had gone through in the last game. It finally came down to one last game for DongRaeGu against MC.

The final game was on Crevasse and DongRaeGu had the perfect strategy. Knowing that MC had taken his back natural to keep pace with his own expansion, DongRaeGu was free to use the Roach/ling push that has been so popular in the GSL this season. The push would be unstoppable. MC made even easier for DongRaeGu by going Voidray tech rather than tier 1 units. MC would attempt to stay in the game with two Voidrays on the map, but it was useless as DongRaeGu won the match for MVP.
