WC3L changes match mode

The 15th season of WC3L brings change. Only two players will be needed in order to complete a clanwar. It is obvious ESL prepares for the rumoured team downsizing for 2009.

Seven seasons ago WC3L changed from having two team matches into only one, and added another solo match. Now, the change is even more notable as the WC3L will change to the popular tennis Davis Cup mode.

With the expected downsizing of teams in 2009, WC3L has adapted their league so that only two players are needed per clanwar. This could mean that in a WC3L match between MeetYourMakers and SK-Gaming, four 1on1 matches and one 2on2 match will be played out by for example Grubby, Moon, Lyn and ReMinD.

- It is my belief that this change is the best possible approach to ensure the continued participation of all the top teams and players on the one hand and to preserve the general concept of the WC3L as a team league on the other hand, says Sebastian "Baschi" Weishaar.

Each clan must appoint two solo players per clanwar who will play four 1on1-matches:

1. As in Tennis, the first seeded player will play against the second seeded player in the beginning.
2. Afterwards the 2on2 will be played with two members of each team (either solo players or a different 2on2 team).
3. Finally, No. 1 seeds of both teams will be playing against each other, just like both No. 2 seeds.

To maintain the traditional seeding aspect of the WC3L the first map of every Best-of-Three match will be predetermined randomly.

These changes will not make way until the start of the 15th season. The playoffs for season 14 and the qualifier for season 15 works as before.

The WC3L team says there will be more changes in the next couple of days.
