SaSe, Grubby pulls through, Team West upsets

Moon, Lyn and Sky was "supposed" to win, but the two Europeans brought their A game and proved that Europe's still to count with.

What was set to be an Asian frag fest ended in a European upset. SaSe and Grubby could take down the Asian superstars Sky, Moon and Lyn in the first round of e-Stars Continental Cup.

Team West started with SaSe, while East put Sky up first. On Echo Isles SaSe opened in a very aggressive, and managed to stay ahead in every single battle. SaSe's Dark Rangers and his mass Dryads could take out Sky in the battles, and it was tough for Sky to gain ground in the match. SaSe was also ahead in expansions, as he took the bottom expansion.

SaSe then played Moon on Terenas Stand, in a Night Elf mirror where the Korean monstered his way to victory. Stellar play by Moon evened out the score, which surely made Garimto and his Asian team mates happy.

But then, the foreign posterboy of eSports stepped up. The Dutchman Grubby from MeetYourMakers was able to defeat both Moon and Lyn, giving Team West the victory.

XeqtR said in a press conference after the matches that they were underdogs and that his men positively surprised him.
- This clearly increases our chances to win. If the Counter-Strike teams grabs their two points, which they normally should do, it will probably go all the way, said XeqtR.

The event is a tribute to Korea's eSport scene and how it is the mekkah of e-Sports. Hosting a joint Counter-Strike and WarCraft 3 competition, the players are split up in Team West and Team East. Both teams are lead by two charismatic and known Korean faces: former StarCraft professional Garimto (East) and the Counter-Strike and DotA player XeqtR (West).

The event continues tomorrow at 08:00, where the WarCraft 3 teams will clash yet again, but this time in a regular style and not the King of the Hill format as seen today. The teams will put one player against each other on a pre-set map.

When the WarCraft players are finished with their games, Counter-Strike will continue with the same kind of game styles.

More like Team Europe got lucky.

Even bottom-dwelling sports teams beat top-tier sports teams once and awhile.
