Is ESWC short on money and lying to their partners?

Posted by Lasse "Enron" Engen 1 year ago

ESWC has been finished, but team-aaa.com now reports that the subcontractors during the French qualifiers, namely Reseau Local, INSA Lan and Leni France, still haven't received the paycheck they were promised.

We held a meeting between exhibitors, we were promised an event with 50,000-80,000 people and in the end there were only 3,000. This is not honest
ESWC may have financial problems as they now seem to be having problems paying they partners. team-aaa.com reports that Reseau Local were promised a paycheck that had been sent on May the 21st, but they still haven't received it, now, more than a month later. After chats with the partners of ESWC, HLTV.org reports that there's a losing interest working with ESWC as they're not keeping their promises.

The new partner a mystery?
ESWC announced before the event that they had a contract with a new major partner, and the partner would be announced during the ESWC finals. However, no new sponsors were revealed during the event. HLTV.org reports that they were told during the event that the partner would be announced during the ending ceremony, but when the lights were down and the event was over, the partner was still a mystery.

The winner of the fragmovie contest and $5,000 was also said to be announced on the final day of the event, but no winner was announced.

ESWC not responding when contacted
Both Reseau Local and HLTV.org have tried to contact the ESWC administration for closure, but both with no luck so far. ESWC has expenses on a total of $213,500 along with the money they owe from the 2008 event, and if this money isn't handed out by September, including the prizes for the players, G7 will act in.

Seems like Kingsurf is the only smart to realise that from Day1 eswc2010 was announced. Is that how French do business?

the lack of professionalism of organizations in e-sports is a very serious problem. More often than not prizes does not get payed out and other bullshit like this.

totally agree with blaa on this - if the teams are at least paid for accomodation and travel fare - i would think that most will join in for fame+honor,

Strange part is World of Warcraft e-sport tournaments never have issues with money and never had, I know this because I played in those torneys with the best players in the world, I guess it's must been just that part about French being a bad place to host a E-sport Event.

“We held a meeting between exhibitors, we were promised an event with 50,000-80,000 people and in the end there were only 3,000. This is not honest ”

Even if they were promised that many people in attendance, what precedent did they have to believe that this amazing WC stadium type of crowd would show up? Have they ever seen crowds like that before at ESWC? Part of the responsibility lies with one who took that estimate and banked on it.

seriously, how could they believe that 50k-80k ppl will come ?
Maybe if its football match between 2 good teams, 60-70k ppl will attend.
But ESWC ? 80k ppl ? LOL
I hope they solve this problem asap.

#46 if you ever been close to the wc3 and sc sceene you would know these numbers were almost always fair. There was a time when there was a huge offline event for wc3 every month, sometimes even more... and never Prize problems ( Even CPL payed its dues back then )

#50 Esports is by no means dead, it is just events like this that give no confidence to people who wish to invest in the industry which is still a niche.

ESWC do this, but SMM pays there money the DAY the tournament ends...which do you think I respect more.

ESWC was like this last time remmeber? They never pay out their prizes.

SMM (Malaysia) and WCG (Malaysia/Singapore) is good though, no dodgy shit at all. I think future esports tournaments will all be more or less affiliated with Asia, that's where the money and (and I hate myself for saying this) honesty is. Ah well... Good luck to G7 as they try to get their money back. But after the 90 day grace period ESWC will probably have vanished. >_>

Well, they cant expect 50k people coming to France.
But if they provided good shoutcasted streams in dota, they could get like 10k watching important matches. Perhaps more.

hehe alot of you folks didnt see this coming, ESWC didnt pay the bills for 2 years now and suddenly u guys think any company in interested in doing business with them?

i think the post of gg.net is right, the "new" sponsor for eswc is and will stay a mystery and this will prolly be last ESWC.

goodjob to chinese wc3 guys for declining, they were smart enough to see this coming.

keep up the goodwork eswc ^^

gosh you guys are so melodramatic, LIES, TREASON, etc etc like they hurt you most of all. The event was a success but nut in the financial way, stop invoking old concepts because most of you do not know what is actually happening there. Either way i thank ESWC for the marvelous show. GAME ON!

Let's ride on this sheep wagon everybody, follow the rumors and take it as a truth. Read the whole article in french, googletranslate it, whatever before you spit out all your melodramatic wall of texts.
Maybe Esports would be in a better shape if the whole community wasn't so doublefaced and ready to hop on every hatetrain they see.

( I still don't think ESCW's organization will be able to make it through though, but it was still a good show )
