No StarCraft in the WCG game list, WarCraft remains.

When the list with the game titles for the grand final of World Cyber Games was announced today, neither StarCraft nor StarCraft 2 were included.World Cyber Games continues to support WarCraft 3, Counter-Strike as well as the racing game TrackMania Nations Forever and the pool game Carom 3D.
But the game that has been in the WCG stable since its first edition is not included. GosuGamers assumes the committee is debating on whether to have StarCraft or StarCraft 2 in the list of games.
WarCraft 3, with one foot in the grave, has with the continued support from World Cyber Games and the Electronic Sports World Cup, been given another chance to live through 2010.
However, considering the grand final is dated September 28 according to the Los Angeles Convention Center website calendar, setting up a qualifier for StarCraft 2, whose release is predicted to be by mid summer, seems unlikely.
The xbox titles are: Guitar Hero 5, Tekken 6 and Forza Motorsport 3.

| YEAH! Go WC3. Well I am sure they will add it later because I think next to Counter-Strike, Warcraft 3 and Starcraft bring more hits than any of their other games, so I have a feeling we'll see it later. But yeah not being added in the first batch could mean it will be announced later or not at all. So it's scary. |

Starcraft had the vast majority of votes for the most spectacular game at WCG poll ... the most watched and simply the best e-sport game ever has not been included ? also why no Quake Live ? this game is pretty popular too and requires huge amount of skill ... but nooo , theyre putting Carom 3D instead now thats fucking retarded beyond my imagination ... ;/ |

| #35 Even if the Chinese play wc3 for the next 20 years, who will they play against? Just cause the wc3 scene in China is healthier than every other nation doesn't mean that wc3 is progressing healthily. All teams are from Europe with the exception of WE and eX and all few Korean teams WMF aRi ConQ A1. All the other Chinese players you speak of are in nG (Kenshin, Moonfans), RAGE (Blast), A1 (ForDream), x6 (Tuo_Xie) etc. or don't have leaguing teams (Wulin, Sai, Yumiko, Fly100, TH000. In other words, if wc3 Korea and wc3 Europe die, nobody will care that the Chinese still play. The game will die. Also, incase you didn't know, wc3 Europe and Korea was dying steadily even before sc2. Now the numbers have begun to plummet just from the sc2 beta.. Imagine when the actual game is released. Aside all this there is only 2 pieces of important information... They better put Starcraft in after the second official title listings. and WARCRAFT 3 LIVES FOR 2010! |

| BW is dying too. It's only 1-2 years and SC2 will be the new standart. Battle.net is full of crap now and if not ICCUP and koreans then it would be dead already. Scene are shrinking in europe and usa. BW life is mostly supported by oldschool fans, game is not appealing for new players. Blizzard wants to kill bw as soon as posible. STARCRAFT IS DEAD!!!!! | I'll take a shot at explaining this since despite its sad, unfortunelty there is rock solid business logic behind this move. SC:BW is a very competetive game and has been present at WCG since the begining but as a spectacle it has been hampered by the fact that the podium is almost always sure to be taken by three koreans. This is one of the reasons why although being incredibly competetive, the numbers of fans wanting to buy a ticket to watch it prefer to watch vods at home or take little interest knowing what the outcome is going to be. The second important thing to remember is that SC fanbese is steadily decreasing despite the greatness of the game and that impacts the profit of having a game slot taken by SC:BW with a small fanbase rather than having less skill requiring games which are relatively new and attract more people just with the hype surrounding those as new products. That is why you find bullshit like Guitar Hero on WGC - competetivness unfortunetly will always come second to profit from sponsorship, transsmition rights and tickets sold. The closest analogy I can find to simplify the thing for some of the younger SC fans who aren't still mature enough to understand the world they really live in is Michael Schumachers career in F1 - he has 7 F1 world championschip titles, yet he retired from the sport being 37 years old and as far as racing sport goes - with the talent he has he could easily add 3-4 more titles to his name. However instead he was probably politely asked to retire and give other drivers and young talents a shot and given a lucrative contract as a Ferrari racing car test driver. Why ? Well F1 is a competition with a LOT of money involved and it hit a wall in the mid of the decade when the sport became boring and lost a lot of fans - therefore money. Schumacher although brilliant didn't help the spectacle at all when everybody knew how almost every race and each season was going to pan out - and thats how we arrive in the present. It's nobodys fault - you cannot hold it againt Schimacher that he was so talented as well as you cannot hold it against SC that its such an awesome difficult competetive game that easily puts off most of new people trying to get into it or against koreans for practicing much and being good at it as well - it's business in the first place, and its the people taking care of the numbers that call the shots - just the unfortunate bitterness of the business mechanics. They didn't announce that they are going to switch to SC2 yet - for the very same reason - they know first of all its not out yet and second of all that even when it comes out it will take some time to build up a fanbase, and to grind into something that will become a steady balanced spectalce to watch - therefore before that happens it is better for them from a financial point of view to fill that slot with any glittering commercial bullshit that is sure to bring them profit from the ticket sales etc. for the seasons to come before SC2 matures into something to make money on. Its fucking sad watching big corporations/companies act like that in a competetive sport categories, since the principal should be to promote skill and competetivness in the first place despite of whether say a game is old - that shouldnt matter if the game still after some years is the benchmark if its category - but, well if they don't earn they would force themselves out of business so they think of themselves in the first place. Human nature - not much I can add here. |
