Xiaofeng "Sky" Li could follow up his disappointing World Cyber Games crashout with a gold medal in yesterday's IEST final after defeating Hyeong Ju "Check" Lee 2-0.

The World Elite front man beat Check on Melting Valley and Twisted Meadows in a match-up that statistically is his worst (61%, says SK-Gaming.com).

Sky's early expansion and quick-tech up to tanks was met with Glaive Throwers and Ancients of War by Check on Melting Valley. Sky then switched to mortars, dragonhawk riders and knights which handed him the first final win.

The second and last game Sky was able to stand against Check's glaive thrower push with solid micro management and better battle stance. Sky's five-leveled archmage and dragonhawk mass could in Check's final attack attempt crush the Night Elf dryads and Warden forcing Check to admit defeat.

The Chinese home-field player defeated Moon, Grubby, Fly100%, Check and Lyn to stand as champion in the somewhat of an after party tournament for WCG.

Sky has therefore climbed to the top position in GosuGamers 1on1 rankings with 26 more points than runner-up June "Lyn" Park.

Check, who was pushed down to the lower bracket by none other than Sky, fought his way back to the finals after wins over both Dmitriy "Happy" Kostin (2-0) and Lyn (2-1).

IEST 2009 Final standings
1. Xiaofeng "Sky" Li
2. Hyeong Ju "Check" Lee
3. June "Lyn" Park
4. Dmitriy "Happy" Kostin
