Switching versions in order to watch replays, turned rarely neccessary, since blizzard doesnt develop patches for wc3 anymore. The latest versions all run on 1.24e.

The servers for chinese Inhouse servers seem to still use 1.24b, so wether you need a tool like version switcher depends on how interested in the chinese scene you are. The games from the tournaments can all be watched via 1.24e, but should you want to watch more (pro pubs, IHL), a tool that switches versions, might be useful.
