Why do the bad get lucky?
Created 7th December 2007 00:54 (Updated: 7th December 2007 01:00)

This is just a blog to document a hand last night at Star City casino.
I spent about an hour moving around, watching my buddies play Blackjack, Omaha etc. Omaha is one weird game.

Moving to the hold em tables, I observed and finally chose a 2/5 dollar no limit table. I sat next to a very pretty petite blond lady. With a greeting of hello, good luck and handshakes, my chips were placed on the table, the game continued.

The game was going ok for me, I guess. Having noted everyone was playing tight I decided to follow suit. This blog is mainly about the following hand I will describe in great detail from my point of view, including my thoughts etc. If you don't like poker, it will be a long read and you should probably stop now.

So the hand is dealt, I'm at the big blind (and the beautiful lady at the small blind). A 6 handed game, 4 players decide to just call before me, for the first time at the table I stupidly looked at my cards before it was my turn. The girl next to me must've picked that up as she decided not to put in the remainder.

I had AK off suit. I decided to raise to 15. To my very surprise everybody left in the hand called. I was kinda scared, low pocket pairs, A K, A Q or 2 Aces (even) were very likely, along with marginals like KQ suited. Or good pot odds I guess, now (the pot) being a healthy 65.

- The flop comes A, Q, 10, Rainbow board

At this point I'm thinking beautiful. Top pair big kicker. AQ or A10 was a hand I was scared of, surely noone would be that loose to call with Q10, KJ ?. So I decide to make a bet that looked kinda random (randomly picking out chips and throwing them into the middle, like a bluff but I knew it was around 20, it was 26). 2 players folded, nice, 1st to act after me and last to act (on the button, I will label him PotB from now as he players a big part here) were the callers. Now the pot was quite a big 120 - ish.

Instantly I ruled out 2 pair or 3 card, especially since this board was scary straight territory. I really thought they had the same hand as me, There was nothing else I could really think of. Maybe someone had 2A and was praying for a straight card to not come. Still you never do know.

- The turn comes 3 of diamonds, Board is now A, Q, 10, 3 with 2 diamonds

A nothing card. Again I bet 35 a very low bet but A Q, A 10, A A was still scaring me a little. PotB calls, the other guy folds. I don't know the hell just happened there, maybe the other guy was going to bluff but decided against it on the turn? PotB must have the same hand I have, AK surely. Nobody would be that loose with 2 diamonds in their hand, SURELY. Pot is now around 180.

- The river comes a J of diamonds. Board is now A, Q, 10, 3, J, with 3 diamonds (10, 3, J)

I made the nuts. A flush was possible but again surely noone is that crazy. I check, hoping for a bet where I can re raise. PotB bets 100 straight. A massive mount of money and half his chips, essentially pot committing himself. But also a sort of a tell that he may be bluffing.

At this point I really don't think he is capable of such a bluff. I just really thought he had my hand. So I re raised him all in, knowing it was 89% going to be split anyway but taking no chances (if he folded he wouldn't see my hand) he looks surprised at me and calls. A smile that looked like "stupid kid I have the nuts and you move me all in with trips".

I flip over my AK, PotB flips over a ...... a .......

Get ready for this.

A very sick player.

He had K4 off suite.

He called a re raise pre flop with K4 and stayed all the way with me with nothing but K high until the river for that J. You have to be kidding me. I know it's gambling but this is just crazy.

I really felt like having a Phil Hellmuth moment. Really now i sort of understand why he goes nuts sometimes.

Any thoughts? Did i play that wrong? Thanks for reading.

I got home at 5 in the morning slept for a few hours and is now 11 am, still rather pissed (annoyed and drunk).

* Some of the money (bets, pot size etc) are probably wrong. It was for sure a 2/5 dollar table though.

"but let me be the first to say how incredibly bad your taste in music is"

Mind to elaborate? To critisize something you must know that something, have u even heard half the bands I listen?
And if u do listen to metal... wait well that's impossible cuz no metalhead would say my list is terrible.
Mind your own business rapper boy.

Btw I wasn't trolling the thread, AnyTime is my friend thats why I wrote that to HIM, not my problem that other guy decided to randomly start flaming me...
