I just had a WCG Monza flashback! While I was adding a headline for the Mondragon and Arew article by halfnorn, my brain gave me a flashback from 2006. The World Cyber Games was then in Monza, and it was my first international eSport event. ![]() It was on the second day at the Autodromo, and the matches had just begun. I was sitting in the press area, struggling with the strange keyboard settings, and had just sent away NastyMarine and halfnorn out to snap some photos and maybe get a hold of a player to interview. I hadn't eaten more than a chocolate croissant at Sebastian's (Shun) place for breakfast, and the day was nearing 16:00. I felt sooo hungry, and the mini cookies the press people had set out was long gone. I was so stressed, with getting the Grubby article out, and uploading the right pictures to the right album. So food was not my number one priority at that time. But then Jonatan (Mazor) put his hand on my shoulder and asked me if I had eaten anything yet. I said no, and that I would just finish this up, and then go eat. We then laughed and looked at each other saying "yeah, like that's gonna happen anytime soon". Damn WCG.

My friend and former colleague Fredrik "ponderosa" Nyström at Rakaka.se met up with Kim "SaSe" Hammar at the Swedish airport Arlanda. ![]() SaSe said that he landed in Sweden this Monday after being in China for the WEM and Make Games Colorful. The Swedish Night Elf player is in Group A, where he's facing both Grubby and InFi. Apparently he thinks his group is pretty okay. He says that he's playing InFi on Gnoll Wood, a map that's rarely used in China nor in tournaments other than WC3L = good chances of winning in order words. He also speaks about his last encounter with Grubby. Last time they played was on the BlizzCon European qualifier, where SaSe won 2-0. The map is Turtle Rock, which gives SaSe a 50/50 chance, according to himself. Group A will be [toyt] like a tiger. Yesch, yesch, very [toyt].

![]() Magic 8-ball, will someone be able to take a game off the Koreans? - A definite yes Wait, Magic 8-ball, will any other than the Koreans take a game off the Koreans? - My sources say no Magic 8-ball, will Androide get another yellow card like in 2006? - Yes, in due time Magic 8-ball, will the StarCraft foreigners ask for the progamers' autographs like White-Ra did in 2006 after his stage match against iloveoov? - Looking good Magic 8-ball, will the soon-to-be eSTRO team member NonY disappoint? - Outlook so so Magic 8-ball, is World Cyber Games the most important eSport event in 2008? - Don't bet on it *** Well there you have it. It seems this WCG will entertain us one way or the other.

![]() Time to gear up for World Cyber Games! I have my shirts. What colors do you bring? The opening of WCG is later today, while the matches won't start until tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to WCG this year. Aside from a few national tournaments, WCG is the only big international tournament that still has StarCraft as a list of games. Thank you for that, ICM. We will have six people on spot, giving you guys the usual and unusual coverage from Cologne. I don't root for anyone in particular in neither games, but it would be nice to see the Chinese StarCraft players perform their best. Even though Koreans are far ahead it would mean a lot to the Chinese scene if they could repeat the success of last year. Can Legend swipe a medal, just like Pj did last year? I guess the non-Asian hopes lie in Mondragon, Draco, NonY and ClouD. They will be interesting to follow throughout this tournament. Is Draco in shape? Can ClouD and NonY bring their A-game like in Spirit League? Will Mondragon, homefield and all, repeat his bronze sensation from last year? Answers to these questions, and much more, when we start the coverage of the World Cyber Games 2008! The WarCraft tournament is too hard to predict. At least ten players have the authority to end up in the Top 3. But watch out for Grubby this year, he seems like one of the strongest contenders. And TeD might be able to continue his successful late-2008 success.

![]() With a coffee by my side and Linkin Park pumping from the speakers, I'm just as eager as the rest of the community for the consolation finals between MeetYourMakers and World Elite. My colleague SteniS believes in a close encounter between the two. My partner in crime ponderosa from Rakaka strongly believes in MeetYourMakers, but I'm not so sure. Their performance versus SK-Gaming yesterday was not too impressive, although crushing BeT was impressive. I think the 2on2 will decide, and both will take two 1on1 matches each. *** I saw ManU here yesterday. The former 4Kings manager must have great memories from this location. He quit while he was on top - winning the WC3L with 4Kings in Season 10. Back then he said that him and Zeus had made a deal that if 4Kings went undefeated, he was to either shave his hair or dye it pink. I wonder if he ever did that. *** World Elite doing good! Surprised to see TeD and Like to be up 1-1 against Susi&Luci. Sky's match versus FoCuS was nice, but I did not really doubt that Sky would win. *** The player awards has somewhat lost its spark, in my opinion. They need to rethink it to make it a bit more "gala". *** Sweden lost to Spain yesterday in the qualifier for EuroCup. TT.
