Day 2 of BlizzCon we got up a bit late, but made it to the show floor as it opened. We started with checking out the StarCraft 2 section and watching some matches (I caught the end of NEXGenius vs. Loner in the winners bracket) and ended up talking a bit with Dustin Browder and chat about the game a bit. Sat with Artosis and Tasteless as they had fans come up to them and get autographs and pictures and talked a lot about SC2 and what it has done for the scene. I went with my girlfriend and we ended up playing some of the Blizzard custom maps, we started with Auir Chef and that alone changed her mind on picking up SC2! We also went and played Blizzard DOTA which was a blast (impressions coming as well!) and looks to be very solid. We then headed over to the main stage area to grab seats for the closing ceremonies and were able to watch the final match (honestly was a bit boring with sloppy play on both sides, but congrats to both players!). The closing ceremony started and Paul Sams in traditional fashion trolled everyone in the place saying that he was going to release details about their new MMO and revealed the Jersey Shore MMO (lol). Tenacious D started and played a really incredible show with Blizzard related imagery being played behind them, alongside the Lich King coming out and fighting The Metal during their song “The Metal”. My girlfriend and I took off near the end of the show and kept up our tradition of ending the show out with taking pictures in the Blizzard theme picture booths. We ended up just walking around for the remainder of the show and to my surprise the WoW Arena tournament was still going on (grand finals had started three hours before). So after a bit more walking around we closed out the show and said goodbye to another year at BlizzCon. Thanks so much to Blizzard, GosuGamers, and all the sponsors of BlizzCon for making the show what it was and I am looking forward to next year!

BlizzCon 2010 this year was my fifth attendance at BlizzCon (forth with GosuGamers) and was a total blast! While the show was light on big announcements (and lots of talk of a possible WarCraft IV announcement before hand) the show was solid all around. I wasn’t expecting much of anything in terms of SC2 news but Blizzard dropped a bombshell with Blizzard DOTA (impressions incoming!) and three other custom maps coming from the Blizzard team. Diablo III got their fifth and final class in the Demon Hunter (which was a bad ass class!) and the addition of a dedicated PvP system using Battle.net 2.0 and the possibility of another Blizzard eSport. Day 0 started with picking up the badge and meeting up with various people from other fansites that I only get to see once a year. Later that night I ended up at the WoW Insider party where Cryptozoic was there handing out booster packs for the new set of the WoW TCG. The party was packed but it was great meeting up with friends and players from my server. There was even a great lego recreation of Booty Bay and Gilneas on display! Day 1 we got up early and stood in line starting at 7:20 and were ushered in at 10:00. I moved on over to the J!NX booth where they were happy to show off their newest clothing that they were selling at the show. Those guys over there are extremely passionate about what they do and are geeks just like us. Some of their newest products really straddle the line between looking nice and something that screams geek. There were Alliance and Horde jackets that were really nice and had small logos on them that would let people who knew what they were that you were a geek, but those that don’t know it won’t scream to them that you’re a geek. The girlfriend and I completed the yearly Brady Games quest and ended up with Alliance patches for our work, and I also ended up dropping off a cover letter and resume at Blizzard’s recruitment booth (crosses fingers)! We headed to watch the opening ceremonies which were nice even though nothing big was announced. We stayed in the main hall and watched the Diablo III panel covering the Demon Hunter and the newly announced PvP system. I headed to the RTS tournament stage to see if anything was happening and met up with Day[9], Artosis, and LiquidTLO as the players were just warming up. I headed back to the main stage to watch the Dungeons & Raids panel which was uneventful but had a nice sneak peak into patch 4.1 (full report coming soon). I then went ahead and checked on the RTS stage again and met up with Tasteless who let me know there were some technical issues were preventing stage matches. Results were hard to impossible to come by as even James from TeamLiquid who was updating the scores on Twitter was having a difficult time keeping everything straight. At this point we went ahead back to the main stage and watched the live raid with Paragon which included retooled older bosses. The event culminated with Paragon standing atop Orgimmar to only get wiped out by none other than Deathwing himself. The costume and dance contests commenced after that with four time host Jay Mohr. I really loved Jay’s material this year and I know year in and year out there is complaining on the forums about him, but honestly not everyone is going to like whatever host/MC/entertainment is picked. Halfway through the dance contest I got a little restless and decided to go play some Diablo III and ended up playing with the Demon Hunter (and yes I did miss Mr. Undead dislocating his knee see: http://g4tv.com/attackoftheshow/aroundthenet/72551/Go-Bwaah-Blizzcon-Broken-Leg.html at 2:49 and a bonus interview with the kid). After the show closed we ended up at the Team Liquid party where I got to meet the Fruit Dealer! TeamLiquid provided pizza and soda for everyone in a friendly atmosphere where being Diamond ranked felt like a requirement :D. I’m tired from the show, and been super busy since I got back so more is coming tomorrow (along with pictures)! If you have anything specific you are curious about, feel free to ask!

So, like a lot of people here on the site, I was anticipating StarCraft 2's release as much as anyone else. StarCraft got me into playing games hardcore, and competitively, and got me really involved with the community. A little history on myself, StarCraft came out in 1998, I was 13 at the time and got really into gaming and building websites during that time, so of course when StarCraft came out I made my own (poorly, oh so poorly) fansite called StarCraft Gateway (do not confuse this with the SC cheats sites that had the same name, that was not me!) and eventually found my way to getting my site hosted on a website called the RTS Network. After all that passed I eventually joined the team here at GosuGamers (when it was StarCraft Gamers) doing battle reports and general news coverage. I've covered StarCraft: Ghost a few times, and every BlizzCon events, so you could very well say, I'm a Blizzard fanboy. So here's my reaction to opening up the StarCraft 2 Collector's Edition, and showing you the contents: Embedding doesn't work, so you'll have to check it out on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMrn4VaW5d4

So, I ended up going down to pick up my badge yesterday afternoon and met up with a forum GG staff member (you may remember his coverage last BlizzCon for us) Lucas "Colbi" Bigham, who is now covering professional StarCraft play over at GotFrag.com. We exchanged pleasantries and such and went out separate ways. I ended up going to the WoW Insider party (don't hate me for liking WoW!) but am absolutly esstatic to see what new product announcement is only hours away! Also, I feel very honored by GG and Blizzard to be given the oppertunity to be one of the first people in the WORLD to experience the next evolutionary step in RTS. Rumor has it that Blizzard is spending somewhere in the excess of one billion (US) dollars on StarCraft II! That is unheard of in the industry, but I think that just show the level of dedication Blizzard goes for us, their fans! The coverage is just about to heat up and we'll be keeping you up to date on new details as they hit on the show floor!
