The NGL Policy

Why was the "permanent" banned player FintoX allowed to play in the match versus NWO? GosuGamers pursued the issue and asked NGL One WarCraft III Head Referee, Robert "Perdita" Rust about the problematical case.

Thursday the NGL announced the banishment of mymF player VoshiX for 2 Seasons. The score was an undecided 3:3 and in a vital individual match against KraGesh, one of the two players disconnected. After a meeting between the admins they decided to give the win to KraGesh and giving the clanwar victory to CFG-Base. This decision from the NGL Admins made VoshiX go off the deep end.

Robert Rust explains why they gave the win to KraGesh instead of a re-match:

“
 A level 6 demonhunter with half meta + 39 supply + expansion up is more than a small advantage for KraGesh. The game was 99% over and we decided that VoshiX could not win the game with 33 supply (4 dryads with nearly 100hp) including two half-dead heroes. We did the same decision once in the Offline-Finals when ToD was winning clearly against Happy while his PC had a technical problem.”

Whereupon VoshiX expressed his frustration in the NGL official IRC channel. Leaving the NGL Admins no other option but to expel VoshiX from the NGL competitions for 2 seasons. Rust explained what happened."The ban of VoshiX is based on several hard flames against admins in public channels. The reason for banning him two seasons is simple. Since mymF won't play this season a ban of only one season wouldn't be any punishment." For more information check the report. This case brought something to the light.

FintoX "permanently" banned
The case brought something into the light, maybe some of you remember. It was the 3rd of November when the NGL organization announced with bolded letters to permanently ban British Warcraft3 Gamer Dan "FintoX" Sami for faking an NGL-Admin in a league match. As result he got banned and none of the teams he was playing for would be accepted to play in the NGL.

But if he was permanently banned, how could he play for CFG-Base.com in the NGL match versus NoWAYouT? (Match) Not that it harmed the outcome of the match, NoWAYouT won with 4:2, but it’s still strange that a permanent banned player can participate in a match.

Perdita explains how FintoX was able to play without any consequences:

“
 FintoX is not banned anymore. He made alot of mistakes during his wc3-career and he was faking an staff-member in the NGL ONE once. After he wrote a letter regarding his mistakes we decided to let him him play this qualifier. But CFG has to guarantee FintoX won't do anything against the results - if he breaks the rules the whole team would be banned from this qualifier.”

The best referees are known for being consistent. If you give one side a freewin after a disconnect, you have to give the other side one too if it happens to them. However it’s quite remarkable that writing a letter is enough to get declared free of charges, it’s important to give all players the same treatment. That’s why I asked if Voshix wrote a letter to NGL with his apologie, if he would get the same treatment. Perdita answered, " I offered him something like this but he rejected directly."

A lot of people doubt the NGL decisions, that’s why I was wondering if Rust thinks that the current policy is enough to stop cheating and not damaging their reliability:
"Maybe you know that the ESL has something similar with cheating people. If they admit their faults the can hope for a shortened punishment or a removal of a ban. Of course this chance will be given only once.

There is nothing about this written in the ESL rulebook. I couldn’t find any admin to confirm this rule either. So we have to trust that Rust is telling the truth. However I do not totally agree with this rule. And So I asked if he had asked wheater if this policy could work. According to him, without any concrete consequences:
"They have the chance to shorten their bans - there is no 100% guarantee. Cheating is officially something that is not accued in the NGL ONE or NGL TWO."

The bad guy
Lets take as an example the Soccer World Cup Finals of 1974. Cruyff strolled upfield, accelerated suddenly and dashed into the penalty area. German Player Uli Hoeness made a desperate challenge - and he needed to, as Cruyff was by now virtually certain to score one of the goals of the competition. Cruyff duly went flying, and referee Jack Taylor pointed to the spot. The German fans went crazy and didn't agree with Taylor. My point here is, despite how your decision will be, there is always one side who will not agree with your call. That’s why the referee is always seen as the bad guy.

Of course it is up to every individual to decide for themself whether the policy of NGL is a correct one. For me, they are doing nothing but just their job. Maybe their decisions are not always in your favour, but next time put yourself in the place of an NGL Admin. This goes as well for the players who are convicted. Of course you can't allow this behavour, but in a emotional and frustated state of mind you could just lose your brakes once. It is more important to be sure that they will never do the same again, just like the the NGL Policy is striving for.

totally sucks.

a game is over when it is over and not admin thinks that player X would win anyways no matter how bad they chances might be that the other player would win

#4 can be a really hard decision, rematch is one option but if one player has a clear advantage and its close to the end of the match he should be granted the win. Because then both players know how the other is playing, especially if one of them did a "suprise strategy".

Perdita is a fair man.
I watched the replay. Anyone would have given KraGesh the win in that situation. The game was over. (I am no admin but I know my wc3.)

Regarding un-banning a player I am pro 2nd chances.

tbh I think the ban is pretty ridiculous compared to what he did, I think it's a very nice and very fair decision of the mymF administration to keep VoshiX in the team, after all, it was just an outburst of frustration, which don't get me wrong - it shouldn't be tolerated but that punishment was way to hard.

why compair this with moon? some people get frustrated more easily than others and moon is more professional so he wouldnt have any outbursts like this even if he got really angry
