Blogs \ Playing StarCraft II

Yesterday I have been playing StarCraft II beta for about 6 hours and I would like to share my thoughts on this game with you.

Downloading the client took me about 2 hours. Good that I have Comedy Central, that made the waiting a lot easier. Browsing GosuGamers pages in the search for the new facts is also a good option when you hunger for StarCraft II, it always is. The installation process is approximately a 10 minutes deal. Everything is cool, everything is smooth.

When I double-clicked on the SCII icon for the first time I was excited as a kid at Christmas. It doesn't happen to me that often. Almost three years of waiting must have put their stamp on me, I guess.

The first thing that hit me positively was the music, which is fantastic. The song that followed me while I was in the menus reminds me of the song from Fallout 2, which play when you sit down behind the wheel of your car to hit the wastelands. Nice! The in-game music is also great, no doubts about that.

I also must say that I like the menus and all the options that can be found there. You can chat with your friends and all this stuff, you can check your statistics, customize profile and so on. Pretty nice. The tab with achievements is blocked in the beta but I believe that it will be a lot of fun to work on them. It all creates really social atmosphere which is good. I’m not sure which way will all these things go, I don't know all of the options that will be introduced with the game release, but I have a feeling that we will all care about our profiles and try to make them look better. "Pimp my profile!". (In Theaters In 2010, lol)

The game itself is great. I was afraid a little bit that it will not meet my expectations in all aspect but I was wrong. It's not WarCraft 3, I didn't experience any similarities, especially in the aspect of mechanics. StarCraft II is a new game that combine both Broodwar solutions and something totally new. But the spirit of Broodwar is clear and almost touchable and I don't mind that to be honest. It's obvious that Blizzard couldn't give us the same thing, it's also obvious that we couldn't get something absolutely new which would break the connection between the StarCraft worlds. I think we get something that aims for the golden mean with the twist to the old times side.

The old strategies seem to work also in StarCraft II. The moment I realized that was the moment when playing became easier and more successful.

I'm not any kind of an expert but I deeply believe that StarCraft II will be at least that competitive game as StarCraft Broodwar is, or even more. StarCraft II will be the game for the next decade.

End of transmission.
