Best Training Method for a noob in sc2 (1385 reads, 5 replies, 4 months ago)
ok...first a bit abt my past...i am what u call a hybrid..have played bw(tho quit before the scene started gettin v competitive), war3, cs1.6,dota all competitively and at a very good level.....have a lot of rts experience...have gud sense of macro, micro...have pretty gud apm...

my plan was to keep playin dota2 competitive but well MOBAs are not that skill intensive tbh and my love for rts have risen again so to speak:P

all i wanna do is play competitively SOOOON...what are the things i need to start learning abt the game dynamics which will help me?

also wat is the best traning method in sc2?

one more question pls...i have not played sc2 online as yet(only opened my collectors edition once;/...no time back then)...are there lag issues considering stupid asian net of mine;/ and are there ways arnd the region lock?

a bit of detail wud be preferred rather than the advice a a friend(a master) of mine gave me to play 2000 games....

Well since u have some good experience with RTS and macro/micro and wc3 there is really not much to do other than play a shitload of games and watch replays + Vods of pros.

I mean the very first tipp i give to everybody new at starcraft ist to really learn all hotkeys and do everything with hotkeys + Never look at anyting u do longer than 1 second.

This makes such a difference in your macro game that u will be high Gold low platinum just by using all hotkeys frequently even without any knowledge about sc2 at all.

The key here is to check your Hotkeys all the time and see if u spend all your minerals.

f.e i have my army 1,2 (different spellcasters in 2 and others in 1) building probe3 ...all my Nexus 5 all my gates 4 my robo 6 forges 7 my council/bay 8 my observers 9, 0

Now during a game press 4 5 6 7 8 every 30 seconds at least once and see if everything does build/upgrade something.
Also use the minimap and/or space key a lot to jump into sceenes where someting happens.

But since u played wc3 comeptitive i guess u allready know.

So start laddering and just play a shitload

Well i dont play activlely anymore but from my limited experience
Most former Orcs try Protoss when they switch to SC2 ?
Protoss has few but strong and micro intensive units which is closer to Orks than Terran or Zerg

Depending on what race u play i guess i can say for Protoss the safest builds as a "beginner" are

PvP
2 gate robo -> can hold of 4 gate -> counters dt rush and gives u many options

Only thing u really need to be aware is that u kill off the pylons next to your ramp if he 4 gates u.
Happend to me more than enough that i forcefield the ramp , make a happy smile when splintting his army in half and then he has sight on highground and warps in 4 zealots which rape my immortal :(

PvZ
a)-> 1 Base warp prism harras -> Immortal timing push is incredible strong
From my experience no Zerg till high plat low diamond has even the slightest chance in holding it off. Bronze to Mid Plat this is an autowin PvZ ....

For zerg to hold it off he needs to scout it then cut probes at ~30 and produce 2 more queens and nonstop lings/roaches from there to hold of your attack.

Which Zerg will adapt so well to produce 2 more extra queens and cuts probes so early below diamond ? I guess none.
99% of the below diamond zergs will just keep producing drones constantly ... build some lings or tech to mutas and then die to your push around 10 minute mark.

here is a thread with replays
I have just toyed around with it a bit and went 11-0 so far ...

As said below Diamond probaly no Zerg will ever stopp this

b) FFE is the standard to open PvZ when u want to play a macro game
and improve as a player

Phoenix are a nice option but require lots of micro

PvT
1Gate FE is the best build for macro games

On Teamliquid there are tons of threads about strategies

If you're playing Protoss go to www.twitch.tv/artosis and watch all his vods. You can also check out www.day9.tv and watch some of his analysis about the Protoss race. These two are probably the best sources of info you can get your hands on. The strategy section on TeamLiquid is also an invaluable source for in-depth analysis of strats, builds etc.

I would also strongly advise you not to pick a race if you haven't played that much. Somewhere along the road you may find yourself liking Terran or Zerg more, so keep an open mind and don't pick a race right away. Play random for a while and see which race suits you the best.

Good luck.
