DawN at WCA 2015: "At that moment, I had a feeling I would win that match"

What decks did you use in the group stage?

In the group stage, I used zoolock, and rogue.

Why did you use those two decks?

I usually use Zoolock because of comfort and rogue is a flexible with lots of different decks choices. They are good basic decks that do well against everything.

What was the most difficult choice you had to make after group stage.

My opponents were all very skilled, so I was always trying to think of the best deck. I can only assume they were doing the same thing, so it was difficult.

Best moment of today?

When I made it to the finals, that felt great. During the final match I chose mage and Steelo chose paladin. At that moment, I had a feeling I would win that match. Because my mage deck is freeze mage and that is very good against paladin.

Worst moment?

When I initially met Steelo in round of. That felt bad because he is a fellow Korean and I wish he was in the finals.

What decks might you bring in the grand finals?

I’m usually keep a very close eye on my opponents. I like to think that I know what decks my opponent usually bring, but this time they are very skilled players. I am worried about what decks to bring.

What do you think is the strongest deck?

I think Paladin has the best decks, either secret or midrange. Paladin has strong cards in nearly every mana slot so when they curve out it is very strong.

What is Paladin’s weakness?

Paladin has powerful cards but they do not have burst damage in time or fast enough. For example, they have a hard time finishing Freeze mage. They don’t have cards like [card]Savage Roar[/card] that help them finish the game.

What card is currently too strong and should bet nerfed?

[card]Mysterious challenger[/card] is the first to come to mind, and that is the most popular opinion. I agree with this but that is mostly strong in ranked play, not necessarily in tournaments. In tournament play, [card]emperor thaurissan[/card] is very strong, probably too strong. It makes amazing combos every match.

What is the most underrated card currently?

I am usually a player that copies other peoples decks and I am comfortable with that. My opinion on card evaluation is pretty much the same as everyone else.

What is your greatest strength as a player?

These days, I stream on twitch (twitch.tv/dawnhs) almost every day and play a very large variety of decks. That experience is crucial for me as a player and it nets me a lot of wins.

Why should people tune in to your stream?

In Korea, I have appeared on an internet broadcast called HearthIdol and people seemed to like it. So if those fans from that enjoy my personal twitch, maybe others will too.

Thank you for the interview!

No problem. I’m glad I can help- I visit GosuGamers for player rankings, it is useful to have one place to see all the tournament info and decks as well.

Any last words?

Although South Korea is still considered weaker in Hearthstone than other regions like North America or Europe, we have good players, just look at surrender and Kranich. Korea has two players at WCA 2015 that made round of 4, so that says a lot too. I hope that South Korean gets a lot of attention because of this.
