The four greatest players in BroodWar’s history will all contest the title come 2017.
ASL Season 2 has entered playoffs with a stacked line-up. All of the TaekBangLeeSsang – an amalgamation describing the four BroodWar greats of Bisu, Stork, Jaedong and Flash – have secured quarter final berths. Of the four, only Flash competed in the previous season of the ASL, ending it with quarter-final elimination to Last.
Although the great fours rose to prominence around the same time after the end of the Savior era, there have been only a handful of premier tournaments where TaekBangLeeSsang all made it to the top eight and none of those was after 2008. ASL 2 is, thus, the first tournament in nine years to reunite the kings of BroodWar.
Although many fans have without a doubt wished for a Jaedong/Flash final, considered the greatest rivalry of BorrdWar ever, the bracket pairings will not allow it and the farthest in the bracket the two bonjwas can meet is in the semi-finals, provided Flash defeats GuemChi and Jaedong prevails over Stork in the quarter final rounds.
The fourth of the TBLS, Bisu, is alone in the upper half of the bracket, playing against ASL 1 semi-finalist Sea first. Bisu/Sea will also be the opening match of the playoffs, coming on streams January 2.
