On the official Starcraft 2 site today Blizzard gave us the first details of the newest co-op mission entitled Chain of Ascension. This will be the seventh co-op mission and the second one added in the four months since the game's release.
Giving some backstory on the mission Blizzard says:
"Ji’nara, First Ascendant of the Tal’darim and Alarak’s second in command, has been challenged to the rite of Rak’Shir by a splinter faction that continues to worship Amon. If their mysterious challenger emerges victorious, Amon’s minions will be poised to seize control of the death fleet from Alarak and return its might to Amon’s grasp. Provide Ji’nara with the psionic support she requires to defeat Amon’s champion and put an end to this insurrection once and for all."
Unlike some of the past missions this seems to feature a more proactive map, similar to Lock and Load, and also forces you to fight for your expansion, something not seen yet. As with past co-op missions there are optional mission objectives and this time you seem to be tasked with taking down the Slayn Elementals which roam the sides of the map, similar to what we saw in the campaign version of this map. Blizzard does say they have increased the difficulty of the creatures and added new attacks just for this map.
As with the campaign version of this mission you and your ally are in a tug of war with your opponent's champion as you try to push the conflict away from your bases and towards the opposite side of the map. As with the changes to the Slayn Elementals we see the Blizzard is changing how the Hybrids impact the battle, pushing your champion Ji'nara back without being in proximity, presenting a new challenge to those expecting it to be a mirror of the campaign.
The Chain of Ascension mission is set to be released with patch 3.2.0, which lacks a release date but has been said to be released soon.
