Annual World eSports Championship announced, $800,000 prize pool for multiple games

The World eSports has just recently been announced a global tournament with $800,000 in prize money distributed over several game genres including Warcraft 3, Dota 2, Starcraft II, and Hearthstone. The event will be held around August at Yellow Dragon Stadium in Hangzhou, China.

WEC has just announced at a press conference that the World eSports Championship in Hangzhou, China, a large scale, annual tournament post TI4 that will take place at the Yellow Dragon Stadium. The tournament will be global and consist of teams from all over the world in WC3, SCII, Hearthstone, and Dota 2 competing for over 5 million RMB (~$800,000).

For the moment, the LAN stage is scheduled to take place from September 6th to 8th in the stadium that holds the capacity to accomodate 50,000 people at once. For Dota 2, the qualifiers will likely be set up in each region three months prior to the LAN main event. Di Pa Company, one of the country's leading professional video game teams, will be hosting the event to promote eSports in China.

Information regarding the prize pool allocation for Dota 2, the tournament structure and the list of teams participating is currently unknown. WEC will be the second tournament to be held in a massive stadium following ESL One Frankfurt.
