Fan favorites Demuslim and Suppy knocked out of Premiere League
The group consists of EG's Demuslim, Suppy and Oz, along with Apocalypse. Two of the EG players were knocked out of the group, with the third, Oz, advancing out of the group first with a 2-0 victory over Suppy and a 2-1 victory over Apocalypse.
Oz's series against Suppy began with a convincing win for the Protoss in game one and a pretty close call in game 2. The Korean Protoss showed signs of aggression which Suppy identified in time to build a handful of spine crawlers. Rather than pushing forward Oz sat calmly outside of Suppy's natural to prevent the Zerg from taking a third. Unable to shove Oz's army away due to resources spent on spine crawlers rather than forces, Oz was able to take his third before Suppy. If you are familiar with SC2, you'll know that a Protoss with more bases than Zerg spells disaster for the latter, this match exemplifies this principle. Oz pushed Suppy with immortals, colossi, and blink stalkers, destroying Suppy's relatively small Ultralisk/Infestor army putting Oz ahead 1-0.
Game 2 played out drastically different from game 1, this time Suppy was able to deny Oz's third base twice. Unfortunately for the Zerg player he played into the hands of Oz in terms of army composition. In an attempt to counter Oz's colossi and possible phoenix play, Oz went with a Hydralisk, Corruptor army, but unfortunately Oz had enough Voidrays to devastate Suppy's air forces. Unable to cope with the Protoss' lasers of death, Suppy's army was disintegrated, giving Oz his second victory.
The second series of Group F featured Demuslim versus Apocalypse, with Apocalypse taking the series 2-1. The matches where Apocalypse won were quick, determined by superior harrass. The first victory came from Banshees and the second, from an incredibly aggressive reaper play which ravaged nearly all of Demuslim's SCVs. Demuslim's victory during Game 2 was a more standard bio versus mech match, with Demuslim utilizing a well controlled bio army. The decisive battle came when Demuslim caught Apocalypse's tanks unsieged and hellbats out of position.
The first match of the winner's series between Oz and Apocalypse played out quite interestingly. Apocalypse managed to double bunker deny Oz's natural, killing his mothership core before it could use a photon overcharge. Adapting, Oz followed up with four gate/robotics pressure. Apocalypse, knowing aggression was on the way built bunkers in response which proved effective. Although Oz's frontal pressure was unable to penetrate Apocalypse's defenses, the Protoss player was able to ravage 13 SCVs with a Zealot drop in Apocalypse's main. This move managed to even out the match, Oz followed up with colossi against a vikingless army. Unable to deal with the Colossi and forcefields, Oz crushed the Terran's forces giving him the 1-0 lead.
Game 2 went in the favor of Apocalypse, the match was dictated by two unfortunate moves by Oz. The first, cancelling his zealot preemptively before identifying Apocalypse's proxy engineering bay. The second, having his mothership core scouting and harassing while Apocalypse pushed Oz's base. Apocalypse managed to kill plenty of probes and stalkers giving him a large enough advantage to easily roll over Oz mid game.
The last match played out rather standard, with Oz taking an early third that was not punished early enough. The biggest attribute to Oz's victory over Apocalypse was the Terran's inability to identify and respond to Templar play. Oz, with plenty of storms, destroyed Apocalypse's ghostless army allowing the Protoss player to close out the series.
The loser's series must have been a frustrating one for EG Demuslim. His losses to Suppy came, in both matches, from cheese. The first was a 6 pool on Yeonsu, which destroyed Demuslim's CC opening yielding a "no GG" departure. The second cheese came in the form of a 1 base baneling bust that had little to bust. Demuslim failed to wall off his main and was toppled over easily.
In the final series of the day, Suppy managed to best Apocalypse with a baneling, muta, ling versus Apocalypse's thor and marine army. Suppy's victory came from base sniping and an unchecked creep spread. Game 2 played out similarly, although with Apocalypse as the victor. This round Apocalypse kept the creep spread in check. Pushing with a hellbat, marine, and thor army, Apocalypse managed to score a victory likely due to the fact that Suppy allocated too many banelings to kill a Thor instead of marines. The last match of the day was pretty cool to watch. Apocalypse identified Suppy's two hatch muta before third play and used a unique banshee, hellion, SCV pull timing before the mutas hit the field. The SCVs tanked all the zerglings while the hellions roached them alive, with nothing to defend the drones, the hellions managed to ravage 40 drones before the mutas could clear the Terran forces. The rest of the match consisted of a traditional marine, widow mine push that eventually ended Suppy's RO 16 hopes.
