Genius leaves Team MVP
The Protoss reveals his departure from his team via Twitter. An official statement as to why he left or whether he joins a different team have not yet been released.
The 20 year-old Korean confirmed the news that he had left MVP when asked by a follower on Twitter. Having joined the team over a year ago, in February ‘11, the separation of Genius and MVP comes as a surprise to many of his fans. The Protoss that consistently put out top performances in the GSL over the past 2 years, since his triumph at Blizzcon 2010, had his most recent accomplishment with a silver medal at 2012 Code S Season 1, losing to DongRaeGu in the finals.
Rumors involve him planning to pursue a financially more viable route and to join a foreign team, like a number of Korean pros have as of late. Others speculate that his military duty is due, which will force him to take a break from professional gaming. Joining one of the KeSPA teams to participate in the hybrid Pro League seems unlikely, as contracts forbid GOM-signed players to join KeSPA within a year of competing in their league. We will know more once an official statement is released by any of the parties involved.
