Twitch.tv, Alienware, Steelseries to offer gaming scholarship

To make gaming while in college more viable, Twitch.tv, together with Alienware and Steelseries, offers talented students a scholarship of $50,000 in total. 5 gamers will be lucky to be funded for playing their respective game.

The three industry giants are going to have a committee to determine the most outstanding students through their GPA, their tournament results and/or ladder points and an 800 word essay, as well as a short video.

“The scholarship concept was inspired by our desire to give something back to the community that has helped us grow to more than 17 million unique visitors a month, less than one year from our launch in June 2011,” says Emmett Shear, CEO of Twitch.tv. Alienware General Manager, Frank Azor adds: “The goal is to encourage the top players to pursue higher education while continuing to compete at the highest levels of gaming.”

To send in your application you obviously have to be visiting a college in the US.
