Ret nyduses his way to the semi-finals

Posted by Radoslav "Nydra" Kolev 3 months ago

Liquid's Ret continues being undefeated in fourth zerg mirror in a row. "I hope DeMuslim wins, as I fell my ZvZ luck is running out," said de Kroon in the interview after him match against DarkForce.

Ret took two convincing victories versus the German zerg to quickly threaten him with elimination. On Metalopolis, Ret went for a quick third behind a constant speedling aggression and as DarkForce could not find the proper answer he was forced to type out some minutes later. Game two on Antiga Shipyard saw Ret constantly messing with DarkForce's macro by running lings by and sniping a queen or some drones while heavily powering up units at the same time. Once Ret moved out, he had almost twice as many roaches as his opponent, who on top of this was trying to squeeze in an infestor tech.

However, DarkForce was much harder to kill that it seemed. On Temple, aTn's zerg won the roach war after pulling off a much better concave and then tied the series on Altar after punishing Ret's hatch first with a fast baneling nest.

All had to be decided on Shakuras Plateau and Ret chose to go for a speedy 2-base lair into spire but his tech got scouted so the Dutchman decided to use a more unorthodox approach. Ret threw down a nydus network and once he saw DarkForce's speedlings out on the map, he hit him from within his main, completely catching him off-guard.

- "I've never done this before, but I felt like I didn't have a choice after he scouted my Lair," confessed Ret in front of the Brazilian crowd.

Ret advances to the semi-finals, where he will await the winner from DeMuslim and Violet.

Funny thing is it was just luck and a gamble that paid off. He really needed to do something crazy to have a chance in that game since he opened so poorly with a huge supply block and missed his Queens and what not. ^^,

#3 I agree but this is sports for you - sometimes luck helps immensely.

Also, it was as much DF's force as it was Ret's. Not spotting the nydus (even though he flew an overlord directly above it) is unforgivable and as such the punishment was well deserved!
