Ukrainian Terran player Kas has won several online tournaments lately, including the GosuGamers Holiday Special, where he beat Swedish SjoW in the TvT grand final confidently 3-0. On the fine holiday evening of the 26th, Kas sat down with us to reflect on his recent achievement.

It's a very nice feeling, beating such strong players (editor note: SjoW, WhiteRa - twice, MoMaN, Strelok, LucifroN - to name a few), take home the main prize... I am very happy (smiles). The best part is the emotions you feel after a win like this, knowing you were the best in this tournament, it's incredible (smiles)

Kas made the grand final look easy playing Terran vs Terran, up against the well known Swede, SjoW. In the first game, Kas managed to read the style of SjoW, and easily counter his early harassment to win the game. In the second game, Kas pulled his SCVs when moving out, and totally dominated the armies of SjoW. In the third and final match Kas was in the lead the whole time, and made himself another Christmas present in €300 for the grand final victory.

I was ready for his hellion rush in the first game because he had done the same tactic against me in the previous five games we played, but my build would still be good against any fast banshee or other aggressive styles of play. I always try to play safe and counter my opponents, and since it was close positions on Lost Temple he wasn't able to rebuild tanks and vikings fast enough.

In the second game I wasn't sure about the fast expansion because he prevented me from scouting, but by the time I had to decide what tactic to go for I scanned his four barracks and one-gas only, and knew it was either an all-in with ground units, or just expansion with mass marine/marauders, so I tried to make a good timing push before he made his first tank.

My scouting reaper in the final game was very successful, and I could respond with a tank push because I think it's the best choice against his fast expansion build.

Kas explains that the toughest opponent of the tournament was his Ukrainian companion, WhiteRa;

I ran a little late for the playoffs so my hands were cold, which is not good when you play StarCraft 2, obviously. And I had very little time for warming up, and my first opponent was WhiteRa, who is a very good player, so it was hard.

We practice a little together, but we mostly meet on the ladder, and the ladder is very strong at the moment. But if one of us asks for some PvT or TvP practice, I assure you we'll see "yes, sure"

Winning several online tournaments, including three Go4SC2 victories, a few ZOTAC victories, first place in the HomerJ Xmas Special, and now also the GosuGamers Holiday Special winner, Kas is one of the players who make a lot of money playing StarCraft 2.

Are you living the dream?

Well, money is not the best part about winning a tournament, it's the good feelings afterwards. I will try better and better, and hopefully one day I'll be in the top of the European players. For now though, I don't think we can talk about who's on top because the game is too young still

Any final words?

Big thanks to all who support me, I will try my best for you guys. Big thanks to my friends and practice partners, and thanks to my team, Empire, for their support.
