New York, New York - Recap of Intel Extreme Masters

Fenix, the Peruvian Terran player who had a lot of success in StarCraft 1 before he switched to the sequel has now managed to win the Intel Extreme Masters in New York.

GosuGamers tried getting a hold of Fenix, but he had to rush to the airport. $4,000 richer, Fenix goes back to Peru. Winning all of his group stage matches 2-0, Fenix confidently went on to the semi finals to meet up with the second place winner from group A, Drewbie - one out of the two Canadians in the semis along with HuK.

SEMI FINALS
The semi finals got tougher for the Peruvian, and Drewbie managed to take two games from Fenix in the TvT series, but that was it for the Canadian Terran player as Fenix won the deciding fifth match and moved on to the grand final with a secured spot in the Global finals.

On the lower side of the brackets it was Canada against the United States as QXC and HuK clashed in a Terran vs Protoss series. HuK has performed really well lately, but the Protoss came out short losing the series 1-3 against QXC who could happily move on to the grand final to meet up with Fenix. We can highly recommend the third game on Scrap Station between HuK and QXC including tons of action, drops and harassment.

GRAND FINAL
The Grand final made a good series of Terran vs Terran, with the first game on Metalopolis setting the standard for the whole series. A very close match, both QXC and Fenix played very similar but Fenix was just that one step ahead making him the victor, which probably has to be a tough mental defeat for QXC losing a straight up match like that one.

Fenix relied mostly on a bio army supported with tanks in the second game on Blistering Sands, and like in the first game, the Peruvian was the most aggressive player overall and made a 2-0 lead.

The third game was different. QXC seemed to find that play of style he had against HuK on Scrap Station, dropping and harassing constantly, and while Fenix was busy dealing with the harassment, QXC could confidently secure a golden expansion and get ahead in army size, until he in the end could win himself a game back in the fight for the $4,000.

It didn't last long however, in the fourth game Fenix got ahead after a QXC push. Both harassed each other with Banshees, but Fenix got the best of it and won the tournament after QXC GG'd out, leaving New York with $2,000 and a spot in the Global finals. HuK defeated Drewbie 3-2 in the Bronze final, making HuK $1,200 richer, and $800 for Drewbie.

This leaves us with two more Terrans in the Global Finals along with MorroW. The World Championship will have a total of 12 players; two from America (being QXC and Fenix), MorroW, four more Europeans and five Asian players.

The Global Finals will take place on March the 1st - 5th, 2011 at the CeBIT venue in Hannover, Germany.
