Blizzard Bans and Suspends Over 5000 Accounts

Blizzard recently announced the suspension and banning of over 5000 accounts that were in violation of the Battle.net Terms of Use.

Over 5000 accounts have been banned or suspended for issues related to cheating and hacking on Battle.net. Cheating and hacking are issues which Blizzard says can lead to both stability and performance issues on Battle.net.

It has been just over two months since the release of StarCraft 2 and hacking and abuse has already been a prominent issue within the community. From map hacks to warped-in Immortals, concerns from the community has flared up over the issue of cheating on Battle.net.

Although the report of the bans have been met with a majority of warm welcomes, several players might find themselves with a locked account due to account security issues. One such user had already posted on the Battle.net forums claiming his innocence despite having a banned account.

In such a situation however, the responsibility is on the player to keep their account confidentially safe. This means that if their account was hacked, there is nothing Blizzard can do even if the owner of the account did not use any hacks.

The news of these bans and suspensions have only been reported on the US community portal and have thus far not been reported on any of the other community sites. It is safe however to assume that at least 5000 accounts have been banned world-wide over this offence.
