MYM parts with StarCraft 2 team manager suNNy

Posted by Karsten "pYRo" Haendly 1 year ago
MYM terminates the contract with its StarCraft 2 team manager suNNy with immediate effect. Reason is the alleged offer to CellaWerra and other Korean players.

According to the German website fragster, MYM's StarCraft 2 team manager suNNy sent CellaWerra - who is known among the scene for his SC2 stream - an offer which suggested a membership for 500 Euros a month. Moreover, CellaWerra would receive gaming support from Razer and clothings from Puma.

The said offer became public, when suNNy approached CellaWerra during a streaming session of his. According to the source it is very likely that the team manager asked the Koreans Tester, Maka and Cool as well.

MYM's management denies the figures and proposals, rather they says that suNNy was supposed to make a contact with CellaWerra and enquire his market value. As Sascha Ackermann, management assistant, puts it:

"We are shocked by this action from our former team manager and we disassociate ourself from this solo attempt. We are surprised by the published terms of the supposed „offer“ since we never spoke about any of this points and some of them are just far from reality. We are sorry for the confusion and we will take personal consequences."

The only way MYM sees to distance oneself from suNNy's actions is to release him from duty. Asking the MYM management whether we might see CellaWerra in MYM in the near future, they says:"We'll see. Perhaps, I'll contact him tomorrow and everyone may follow it on livestream. So stay tuned." Adding that they actually do not plan to sign on with another Korean, as they focus on the European market.

I understand they are parting ways because of the manager apparently lying to the player, but this article seems to put it as if the simple fact of him trying to recruit the player was the issue, and that's just weird.

i dont get it ( my english is not well )

whats the problem exactly?

the manager cant ask any good player to join in the team?

(if some 1 break down into easy english just the main thing i would be happy)

#9 My English is great and I still don't see exactly what the problem was...

Did he offer to big a salary that he shouldn't have? Or he is not supposed to recruit Koreans?

the problem is that mym doesnt want the public to know how much they are willing to pay for certain players pretty much =P

#20 i think it was an accident, when making these offers its highly secret and u dont want anyone to even know u r interested in them and the last thing u want is the salery to go out because then other teams know how much that team can offer and its a huge factor in which teams gets which players ^^

could be wrong tho im no expert at this tho

so, long story short, how much do you get as a salary?

For the people that do not understand why there is a problem with what happened, let me try to shed a bit of light on the situation. Firsty, these are private contracts, not meant for public viewing. Its not appropiate in the business world to publicly declare such matters.

Secondly, and more importantly, MYM might not be paying all of their players the same salary. However, no player is allowed to divulge how much he is being paid to another teammate, because odds are one is making more than the other, which leads to disharmony amongst the team, and more of their players asking for the same amount whether they deserve it or not. It also sets a precedent for any future recruits who now believe they can negotiate an offer similar to the one that went public, rather than settle for something less.

Long story short....keeping these contracts private prevents in-team salary problems, as well as negotiations with future players, who can now set the bar at 500 euros.

What alot of people are probably overlooking, and maybe even the article too is the fact this is sunny's second time being kicked out of MYM lol..Back when he was in charge of the WC3 squad, he got in some trouble as well and was removed.

i really dont think its as simple as that.

The real reason for firing sunny is probably because he (unknowingly) offered / tried to poach cella + maka in public.

Other than exposing Mym's financial bargaining power ( all pro gamers contacted by MYM will ask for at least Cella's wage or there about) , it also might strain relationship with clan Prime and Werra.

I honestly dont believe that someone will be so stupid to make a "fake" offer to Cella and not expecting the incoming backlash.

Regardless i think it's cool if Cella, Maka,Cool, and Tester get a salary to play this game. Especially Cella. His stream is very entertaining. All the best for cella + mym

sunny wasn't the owner of MYM. he was only a contracted agent so he can't make offers without permission of administration. for a professional team nothing is worst then to be known making blind and false offers to players.

what if player did accept the offer? in that case MYM should have to agree to sign a contract with a player which they don't want to or we all read another news that is about how MYM make false offers to players.

what if player turned down another team's offer because he thought he is going to sign a contract with MYM?

such actions shouldn't be allowed in professional scene.

i didnt understand this article here, when i read it first. so i went to fragster.de and read their article.

MYM wanted to collect the market value (thats the words they used at fragster) of some koreans.
honestly i think there arent so many options to get their values, so what should sunny has done? asking big concerns, what they would pay for an advertising campaign with the koreans?
asking all other pro teams, what monthly salery they would pay these guys?

or asking the guy himself, for what money he would sign at MYM?

that this whole was public, was probably an accident, i dont think that sunny had known that. but if he would have phoned the koreans, who can gurantee that this koreans dont make the offer public?

usually u dont sign anything, before u get an offer - even if, what would happen if the koreans would have broken this contract of silence? i doubt MYM would take them to the court.

i think it is a big overreaction by MYM, shit happens. take a look at football. there is much more money involved, they always try to hold this cash things as secrets, too - but by far to often the press knows how much salery players get and stuff.

This looks like a sad accident to me and imho Sunny did actually do what MYM told him to (getting idea of the market value of the korean players) how you make a research if you cannot test anything? That's a thing I would like to hear explained. It's bad luck the thing happened to be live though I doubt sunny knew about that.

This is how the "professional" teams work: MYM (as a whole prolly made a mistake) and they only fire the manager in order to claim they didn't play a role in that. It's sad how fast e-sports is turning into Football, Icehockey etc. It's so easy people always want someone killed when they're "defeated" in some front: when the coach doesn't lead Russia to gold Russia fires the coach not the players. And the same story in football: they always fire the coach, it's never the players. If the team wins world championship it's the players that are good it's never the coach that it good. When the team plays bad the players aren't bad it's coach that is bad. If you ask me, it's ridiculous:P
