OGN not to broadcast Global StarCraft 2 League

Posted by Karsten "pYRo" Haendly 1 year ago
GomTV announced on 3rd September 2010 that there will only be pay-per-view TV for this season's Global StarCraft 2 League as OGN will not broadcast the games.

Although OnGameNet and GomTV reached an agreement last month, latest information say that OnGameNet will not stream the games of Global StarCraft 2 League for as of yet unknown reasons.

Yesterday, GosuGamers.net reported that Gretech - the company behind GomTV - and KeSPA did not reach an agreement for the continuation of the Proleague. As OnGameNet is a part of KeSPA it might be possible that they canceled the contract with GomTV.

GomTV announced earlier this week that spectators would need to buy a ticket to watch the provided stream. A season ticket costs $19.95, whereas a VOD ticket, which allows you to watch the VODs during the season, makes $29.95.

On one hand i do understand their decision...seeing that Eurosport, ESPN and so on cost something to watch. On the other hand it is clear that most fans won't pay that much and i am one of them...

Also, making the VODs cost so much is just ridiculous seeing that it is clear that someone will make them avalaible for free..they are just movies after all.

At least now ESL, with it's low quality free stream, isn't the worst service anymore, seeing as at least you can watch it for free.

WTF is wrong with you people? $20 or $30 is NOTHING. This will be the biggest tournament ever and will do sick good things to e-sports and SC2, so this is a very small price to pay in order to contribute to the financing to ensure future tournament like this.

Show some F... gratitude ! If not, then you dont deserve to watch! This is how the world works!

"$20 or $30 is NOTHING. "

Well it's nothing for you... You can't really make this assumption for everyone.

#17 Most of the spectators are students/pupils who don't earn money on their own. So it may seem nothing to you but a lot to others / the majority.

Having Activision directors holding esport's future into their hands is definately as relevant as having a grocer piloting an airliner.

(With all due respect to grocers ofc.)

i dont see the greed, its a tv station, its like all other tv stations in the world
you pay to watch things

if gom is gonna have a major tour each month ofc its gonna have to get some money in from the outside besides sponsors, or atleast until its so populair that it can survive on sponsors alone.

What did you think it was going to cost with $170.000 in pricepool? Money doesn't appear out of thin air you know..
#36 Cartel 1 year ago
Although the cost will anger some i believe of course this was a last resort. The prize pool is just too big. This is the biggest tournament in gaming history for single players in a game, in terms of prize pool.

Think about UFC, pay per view is $59.99 and pple are willing to pay that. $30 is definately more worth it in my opinion, for an entire season. I think we've been very fortunate to watch free tournaments now so the next time we watch those we should be thankful for the organizers who put it out there.

"$20 or $30 is NOTHING. " but i will rather spend that nothing on something else than watching gomtvs broken streams or VODs that never work anyways

I would like to mention that for us Europeans we will probably not be able to see a lagfree stream. They use the same streaming process as they did in older events. I tried getting their client and so on. But couldn't watch it without getting buffers all the time.

So that is why I am boycutting season 1. Until people tell me that their shit is working fine.

#43 Thomazor 1 year ago
Funny thing that the internet-generation expect everything to be free. Well this is a pro tournament, and as in all sports you have to pay to watch it. If you dont want to pay to see it, then watch some other free tourneys instead.

GOMTV just changed their mind. The lower quality stream will be free.

I think its a super deal, you can chose to watch low kval if you dont have the means or if thats enough
if you have the cash and want HD or you wanna support the tour / e-sports towards mainstream

Should be awesome cant wait to see the games casted by tasteless and artosis, gogo gom give us more games!
Been missing the action we got in broodwar from them

This sucks balls !!!

Damn here in sweden we even get free UFC to watch on tv for everyone. This shud be for free i think we already payed 57Euro for the game (digital copy).

Lower the prize pool to the point where you dont need to pay anything. I think mutch more people would appricite that.
