Break Down: Negotiations between Gretech and KeSPA stop

Posted by Karsten "pYRo" Haendly 1 year ago
"We cannot sign off on the Proleague, since it will compete with the GSL.", says Gretech responsible at the beginning of the fourth negotiation, demanding a reimbursement from KeSPA for the Global StarCraft 2 League.

Entering the negotiations by signing an NDA on June 23rd, the four coming meetings between Gretech and KeSPA did not come up with a conclusion about the continuation of the Proleague, rather making each's standpoint clear.

That is that Gretech fears about the Global StarCraft 2 League:"If Proleague goes on without any monetary reimbursement, then from our position, we can end up in a position where we're not guaranteed any profits as GSL can be damaged because of the Proleague." They continue explaining that "the GSL can be damaged again due to the Proleague schedule.", and referring to the boycott of GomTV Classic.

KeSPA on the other side hold the opinion, that "because we don't make any profit from the Proleague, and the 11 progame teams all pay quite a considerable amount of money for team operations and the board of directors free, it's quite difficult to pay Gretech reimbursement in any sort of currency." They continue to say that "there isn't any more point of negotiations" when Gretech does not accept the fee for Intellectual Property.

In case KeSPA runs the 10~11 Proleague season without an agreement with Gretech, Gretech makes clear that they will take legal actions:"(I)f the Proleague starts without negotiations, then they will not be able to avoid legal consequences." However, they hope to reach an agreement with KeSPA.

Time for the government to step in?

No its time to let the courts decide, and create a prejudicating case/clarification of Korean legislative policy and interpretation of intellectual property rights.

f**k u Blizzard and all your dirty siblings for all this chit we are being involved into, If not for Blizzard it all would be OK with either Kespa/Despa/Mespa/AnyEspa to run the show in Korea, if not for all these greedy bastards, we could enjoy streams and the freedom for sc e-sport to evolve! so this is my personal F**k you!!! as a fan, and as, well, as a human.

Oh man..
In my oppinion Blizzard is not just destroying the SCBW scene with their "we dont anyone to play SC1 anymore, all should pay and play SC2 now" utopie..

NO!

They destroy the life of the people who are working for SCBW. In Korea its not just a game, its an important economic aspect there. People who work as behind the scenes of Proleague etc. And dont forgot all this korean kids who were playing so much to get that good that they are able to earn money with it. Just imagine the Premier League in England is closed suddenly (mb there is a difference between the growth of soccer in England and E-Sports in Korea, but still its a really big economic aspect of this country as well). People who were training football the whole time to be able to earn money and play in a proffessional team. They got nothing after that. Instead of earning a lot of money with their sport they love to do, they got low payed jobs they hate or are unemployed.

To come back to Broodwar in Korea..
All the kids who were playing that much to becomme a Progammer would suddenly dont know what to do after SCBW is destroyed. As well all the other people who got their jobs based on Starcraft as I mentioned before.

But still I think people in Korea would not stop that fast to play their favourite game ever.. Starcraft Broodwar

lol, scared of change much? :P This is inevitable and SC2 is not a noob game. I never liked it nor the death of the BW community any more than you guys but at least I admit I'm just afraid of change.

It's also funny how you blame money hungry people for killing the community, when it was money which kept the community alive. If it was "the love of the game" and all that, BW would stay way stronger today than it is.

In a sense, you're all blaming the wrong people. It's supposed to be "fuck all BW gamers who don't play anymore", if you're going to whine about it.

Basically you can say that after SC2 beta start the whole world except Korea switched from SCBW to SC2. But not Korea.

So now Blizzard (which controls GOM) denies all SCBW leagues and forces their closure. This is such a scandal... Why not let the Korean viewers and fans decide?

Fuck you Blizzard and fuck you GOM for destroying Kespa, all proteams and all pro leagues and tournaments ... who not want to switch over... basically destroying all the remaining scene of our beloved game... fuck money.

So the only thing you can do is DONT PAY FOR GOM OR GSL AND DONT WATCH THE STREAM, if you dont support GOM destroying BW scene!!!
7
#35 inco 1 year ago
You do know that money is what made the Korean pro scene happen, right? :P

And it's not really a scandal, in my opinion. As any investor, they want to make sure they get the most out of their investment - it's just business. And without business, there's no televised matches nor pro teams.

#33 You are totaly right . All these Sc2 haters just afraid changes . They play bw like 5-10 years , they spend sick amount of time for practice skill etc . I fully get it ... but ask your self.. how long you wanna play BW ? Look at the same graphic .. make the same build orders .
Blizzard dont wanna kill nothing.. its time for changes , for players .. for esport . Changes are really good not only in game we play , but in life to.

and btw , SC2 is better game then BW , maby balnace is not so greate AT THIS MOMENT ( patches in the way ) , but all others aspect of sc2 are way better then BW

#36 what is this noobchit? I will play bw like forever not because the graphic is old or bla bla whatever u may think it is, but because I like it, I do not oppose SC2, in fact I dont give a chit about it, because you cant make me play hockey, if I like football, you cant make me play blackjack if I like poker, so please leave it be. There is nothing about 'afraid of change' and other stupid thoughts of many here. This is about how much do you love the game, so don't challenge me here. It is about how f--ing is not great that damn blizzi moneyracks dont give a chit about community, well, after sc3 will appear they are going to handle sc2 this way too and fool you and your money into another round of mindless consumerism.

#40 inco 1 year ago
When we talk about people being afraid of change, we mostly point it at those who flame SC2 for no good reason except the alleged easiness of it. And of course Blizzard wants to make money and make sure they make more - they're a business, after all.

They made StarCraft to make money and now they're making another one to make money. They probably love their job as well, so in a sense it's just as selfish of the gaming community to demand they don't make money nor do what they love, just so we can stay put with what we love ourselves.

We're consumers of their product and the fact that they've taken initiative to have our community have as much of a say in the making and balance of SC2 speaks rather much about how much Blizzard cares for the community/their consumers. Naturally, it's also money, I'm not going to hide that.

This is in no way a scandal - it's just business.

People can romanticize as much as they want about the community, the love of a game and all that, but frankly it's not as simple as that.

The hatred shown by many of you seems quite immature and simple minded.

#36 : i dont think most reactions here are about playing BW, but watching pro level.
Graphics dont make games. Some games have fancy 3D animations but after a couple you realise there s nothing else behind.
and to be fair most of us will never get any good (as in winning a tournament or smthg) in either bw or sc2...

Proleague is unique in that you see amazing moves and games ,even after 12 years.

It s like football if you want, always the same right? just 22 lads running for a ball. Pretty simple, and over 100 yrs old, but you still watch it dont you? And you re prolly never gonna play a champion s league game yourself...

BW is a sport, a sport never dies!

edit: #40 : very valid point there though, sadly (not for the afraid of change necessarily but for the business part)

#39 What the hell are you talking abouth !
" well, after sc3 will appear they are going to handle sc2 this way too and fool you and your money into another round of mindless consumerism "

I just say LOL , BW is on esorts scane 12 years ...now after 12 years , SC2 comes out , and you tell me all ppl playing SC2 , are just stiupid idiots who waste money ?

I know that graphics dont mean gameplay ... but some ppl after 5-10 years of playing are bored whit the same textures ...

and pls dont compere playing poker or blackjack to playing Bw , sc 2 . When i read your post i think you never play sc 2 . There is no that much diffrence betwen bw and sc2 , ppl just need to know game better.
You can say that W3 isdiffrent game then BW , and yes its true , but you cant say the same think abouth bw and sc2 , you get it ?

I love Bw pro scene , but the fact is ONLY THING that keep pro Bw players to play it , is money . They will se cash in SC2 , they gonna switch , we just need to wait

#43 inco 1 year ago
He's just saying he's not interested in BW and that you can't make him like it just because you think it's a better game, just like you can't force him to like Blackjack better if he likes Poker.

I disagree strongly with his earlier statement about Blizzard only being greedy fucks, but there's nothing wrong in just liking BW and not being interested in SC2.

blizzard or anyone else doesn't have the right to make any demands other than people paying for their game

you buy the game, that's it; they can't say they own the replays, that's like me saying that everyone who reads this has to become my sex slave, it's like the creator of the first programming language saying that every software ever made belongs to him

you can't just write anything you want in a contract, and whoever signs it has to deal with it; you can't make contracts that are in contradiction with human's rights, and as funny as it may sound all their retarded demands do come in conflict with fucking human's rights

it's like if i'm playing starcraft and some dude sitting behind me is watching then he has to pay as well; no no, he doesn't have to pay shit, he can look at any fucking thing he wants, including their game, spectators don't owe them shit, tournament organizers don't own them shit, the only thing they can ask is that you buy the game, you buy their game and that's it, k thx bye, it's none of your business who is watching me playing and who's paying me to play

if me and a bunch of friends buy their game and make a tournament, and some ppl come watch then we don't owe anything to blizzard for this

sure, if we make promos for our tournament and include their trailer or movies they made or their posters or i don't know what then yea, but that's something totally different...

in conclusion: fuck you blizzard, their behavior is unacceptable, copyrights are becoming absurd anyway, this is fucking extortion, they should go to the police and file a complaint

Oh, snap! I just took some time to better understand just what Blizzard is up to and unlike what I thought (just pulling the plug on a sponsorship) they're really doing some fucked up stuff!

Even though it's still business and I can relate to them wanting a penny or two out of their Copyright, but demanding money for their losses on people watching BW instead of GSL is just retarded T_T

I'll have to agree; fuck you, Blizzard.

Huh! harsh was I, just maybe a so baaad day, well, many do have nice views about what and how, so I do like inco and needagun, and yes pallad do seem know what they say. Well all I wanted is just for proleague to stay, I dont mind SC2, yes, I will certainly try it and I know I will enjoy, I'm just too overworried for blizzard "I-know-better" attitude and what money can and did to the world already( That is childish to deny the market still I cannot let myself be content with that.

So now, let #5 ranked player in dead sc:bw scene talk, who also tried SC2 on its Beta stages.

First of all, SC2 is more noob-friendly game. U don't need sending workers to minerals, selecting each gateway 1 by 1, nor making couple of 12 units groups to control. I met a lot of people who call this "no more useless spam but brain usage". I agree but it makes SC2 less proffesional game and I'm sure that we will see some 100 apm guy at the top of SC2 scene sooner or later.

Second thing I would like to describe is micro, or maybe no micro in SC2. Where are the units which could win the game alone like shuttle with reaver or vulture in zerg's base or just stacked muta. In sc2 u can't find any micro, even carrier (same unit as in sc:bw) is now unmicroable. Also, we all know how important in sc:bw positioning was. In sc2 u don't need it, since units stack beautifuly. Let's imagine a pvp in both starcrafts. In SC:BW someone who went fast expand was counting on distance between bases (so he can produce additional units) and positioning to deal the most possible damage. In sc2 both elements don't exist, since the agressor has warp gates, and as I said already, beautefully stacked units will just come and kill. All the micro left in sc2 is spell casting.

The only good thing which i see in sc2 is these nexus / cc / queens abilities which make the difference between worse and better players.
Also, the funny part is that whole 200/200 army can take just 1/4 of your screen lol

Am I afraid of changes? Hell no, I tried SC2 Beta and I just don't like this game, as I have 140 apm in micro and 50 in macro in sc:bw and I played some games, ending in top1 platinum. It's all about macro, eventually suprising opponent, nothing else matters.

Also, when in sc2 some huge battles take place, I can't see which units are dying, on which the fire is focused. The units are smaller, stacked and together with all the visual effects make my eyes blind.

U must know Morrow, we are really close friends. He, as a top sc2 player, has the same opinion as me - SC:BW is the better game but all the money are in SC2.

Pallad, pls tell me, what makes ppl think that SC2 is the better game, except graphics and that it's more noob-friendly game.
