SearchNew muta technique by IdrA in the semi finals

Greg "IdrA" Fields presented a new technique of killing thors with mutalisks, and when Tarson was close to getting a 2-1 lead, the American did the job killing all the thors and got the win.
Tarson caught Greg off-guard in the second game making an early marine/hellion push and won the game very easily, making the score 1-1. That was it for Tarson however, IdrA managed to pull off a very nice way of killing thors with mutalisks, won the third game, and the fourth game as well, making it through to the grand final which will be a TvZ between MorroW and IdrA.
We'll have two TvZ coming up tomorrow, first the thirdplace final between Dimaga and Tarson at 12:50 CET, followed up by the grand final at 15:10 CET.

| Tarson just played bad, only 4-5 thors definitely not useful against mass muta if he would mixed it with marines instead of that much hellions... |
| #5 5 thors in ladder game is more than enough to take out any number of mutas from player who put em all together. And i dunno how new this is, since it came up like 2 months ago. |

| #6 clearly it wasn't. Idra just used so simple micro strategy thats why tarson needed marines instead of that many hellions. If zerg masses mutas like idra did you should either mass thors or add critical mass of marines to the army. |
| This is the new technique: U select all of your muta and move-command them to the thors. After floating above the thors, press the Hold-command. Sounds simple but heres the tricky part: You have to move-command the mutas quite far BEHIND the thors , so the mutas will spread in the air in mid-destination and don't clumb together while closer to the destination. You have to try to make the position of the thors the mid-destination of the mutas, so they'll be totally spread out. Next part just simply press HOLD en voilà ! Idra did this today perfectly, annahilating every single thor, it looked IMBA ! If the zerg players around the world will discover this easy technique... Terran mech will obviously be the worst strategy in the world, because the thor will become unreliable ! |
| This sums up the Korean Zerg versus Terran Matchup which is different over here. In Korea Replays you won't see Thors but mass marines with dropships to counter mutas. I was always wondering why... |

| #10 Its NOT new technique , but tarson Have no marines whit heal and stim , only NAKED thors . If teran have only thors and some or marines .. like 4-5 no stim etc.. Its very simple to kill that . but like i said teran player like to make more marines whit stim and some thors for that , Tarson make miskate and he build helions not marines . To much helions no marines , that was the mistake Taron was ready for lings benglings push , not only for mutas , Tarson dont have time to transition to more marines , because he spend all cash at helions and thors . Idra make use of that and USE OLD muta spred for thors . If someone dont know 5 can easy kill one thor ( if ofc Scv dont repair it) , more mutas more AOE dmg , its simple Tarson make mistake nr 2 too , he see IDra is making only lings , no roches , x2 gas in exp , He know Idra is going mutas push .. why the hell he build banshes , i think is stres of big turnament , Idra got more experience in big , live casted turnaments |
| #13 It might be OLD to some of you, but I for one hadn't known of the effective way of spreading my muta's against Thors until I saw PsyStarcraft make a video about it on Youtube. Now the news will spread among the casual players and make Terran spice up their mech game more with bio/starport. Nice change for the metagame I say. |
| The biggest error in this game by tarson was getting 1-1 upgrades for mech instead of 2-0. Thors do 6 (+1) + 6 (+1) damage vs light (ie.mutalisks) and have 4 attacks. In other words 1 thor attack does 4 * (6+6) = 48 damage. With 1 upgrade it's 56 and with 2 upgrades it's 64. So why is 2 upgrades critical? Mutalisks have 120 life and start with 0 armor. So 2 attack upgrades means thors 2 shot instead of 3 shot mutalisks, a HUGE difference in dealing with muta's. With 1 armor upgrade the muta's take 60 damage per volley so they still die in 2 shots. If tarson had gotten 2-0 instead of 1-1, which arguably is always just better because attack upgrades benefit mech so well, the thor vs muta fights would have been alot closer. It really matters ALOT if after 2 volleys from 5 thors, 5 muta are dead or 5 muta are just in red. This is not to say armor upgrades aren't effective against muta because armor is offcourse great as well against a bounce attack but getting double attack first is just more important. Basically getting mech upgrades against terran is just crazy important because they are so critical. Tarson just got outmassed by muta, I can't believe this mutaling strat is effective against terran once they know how to counter it properly. (just properly upgraded thors in proper numbers) |

| yea.. not sure why this titled "new technique" also.. spreading a unit to avoid splash damage is common sense... who cares how its done, there many EZ ways to do it.. |

Marine+Medivacs+Thors is no quite easy to beat with Mutas. You can steamroll with banelings into his Bio and he has to micro them away and hopefully the KI is not priorizing the mutas |

| Not new, that you have to spread the Mutas. But with this command-control technique it's very usefull. |
| If it was new to Day[9] its pretty clear its new to the "masses" as well, hence it´s news. If some secret about USA´s war in IRAQ comes out today pertaining to events 5 years ago, even if the military and some few individuals have known all along, its still news to the masses. The big deal here is not the spread, but a perfect illustration of practical implementation in a high level game (not a testing environment, but in a live environment) and how effective it is. The big deal is the "S" move... At the end of the day, if 5 out of the 100,000 visitors GG gets per day already knows about this and its not news to them, its not reason to not post it for the rest. Certainly there were people in this thread (and people who havent spoken) who were very happy this was post/reposted or whatever you want to call it. E |

| Well, I am useing mass muta against mass thors since rouches was nerfed in beta with this technique quite successfully at top diamond level, even some terrans start complaining that thors suppose to kill mutas not reverse after I smashed them. I was so suprised after Idra said that he find out this technique in that match. Lol he playing 12 hours a day and he didn't know how to use mutas against thors until now?? lol... |
