ZOTAC Cup has returned with it's usual €100 first prize, starting this Sunday with the first cup after the beta. We spoke to the ZOTAC Cup supervisor, Matthias "Losemann" Beyer.

16 cups were played, the first one was won by Dimaga, the final was won by DeMusliM. Now it's time to start up ZOTAC cup again.

I loved it, we’ve got a great game and we had a very successful beta phase. Nearly all our cups had a full roster and we had a lot of different winners. It was quite interesting to see the effects of the different patches on the strategies throughout the tournaments. I think the ZOTAC StarCraft II Beta Cup was fun for everybody who participated.

What are your expectations for the upcoming cups now that the game is released?
I have very high expectations for the upcoming cups, all we can do is to further improve our work and be available for any upcoming questions concerning the cups. I think the community is aware of the effort we put into the ZOTAC StarCraft II Cup and I know for a certainty, that our referees are looking forward to the next cups!

A lot of new tournaments are running including the Go4SC2 tournament of ESL, and many more. ZOTAC Cup is continuing with their weekly €100 prize pool, which is all for the winner.

How does ZOTAC Cup stand against the other leagues and tournaments out there?
I think that we have proven to be one of the best and most reliable tournaments during the StarCraft II beta. We will stick to the current prize money for now. ZOTAC and the tournament reach out to casual gamers; in addition to that we are happy to see professionals playing.

Matthias explains how the WarCraft III tournaments have worked out very well with a prize of €100, and how it attracts many stars to the tournament. ZOTAC has always cared about the causal gamers, but they are also granted a chance to play the top players out there - giving them a direct picture of how good they are at the moment.

In our tournament they can improve and they compete with better players in order to get a measurement of their current skill level. Beating top players also brings them a little fame and maybe a clan offer. The combination of casuals and professionals is what makes the ZOTAC cups very interesting.

Shoutouts
I just can say that I love every participant of the ZOTAC cups and I love guys who constantly try to become better. Everybody is appreciated in our tournaments and everybody who thinks he is not good enough to win the competition and therefore does not participate, well, I just tell you guys, that even when you are not winning, the tournament is a lot of fun and you get to know a lot of great people and maybe future friends.
