The eSports League has expanded its weekly tournaments to include a 2on2 tournament where pairs can test out their teamwork and skill against others in Europe.
The very first ESL 2on2 Beta Cup finished last night on March 25th 2010. A total of 32 teams registered for the tournament and after 5 rounds Team Derava Kapsa, ]DK[, of the Czech Republic took first place. Team ]DK[ took on Team DoS in the finals and won the match 3 to 1. Team Derava Kapsa only lost one single game in all their matches, dropping a single game against DoS. They finished the tournament with 9 wins and 1 loss.
There seems to be no prize in the tournament other than glory. This tournament will most likely be the first of many 2on2 tournaments to come. Amongst the plethora of single tournaments, people who enjoy playing in a team may finally compete in an organized tournament. This will no doubt act as a catalyst for players to think of new strategies and to help balance 2on2 mechanics for StarCraft 2. Hopefully with continued support from the community and further testing, a mutual balance between 2on2 games and single-player games can be found.
For teams on the European server who are eager to test their skills together in battle, be sure to stay tuned to ESL for their next 2on2 tournament.
