DRX has topped the Group C standings after winning a tiebreaker against Rogue.

With the final matches of Group C in the Group Stage done, both DRX and Rogue have secured a spot in the upcoming Knockout Stage. Top Esports was eliminated after DRX’s earlier win against GAM Esports, whereas GAM Esports was eliminated after DRX won a game against Rogue.

Here are the final Group C standings:

DRX has topped the standings at 5-2 after losing to Top Esports and being forced into a tiebreaker against Rogue, while Rogue fell to second place at 4-3 after losing to DRX in the tiebreaker. Top Esports had a very respectable finish in the Group Stage at 3-3, while GAM Esports unfortunately fell to the bottom of the standings at 1-5. Rogue and DRX will be next seen in the Knockout Stage, which begins on October 21.

In the penultimate game of the day, we saw Top Esports show up against Rogue with a strong performance. 20 minutes in, Top Esports was dominating the game with four objectives and a strong 7k gold lead. Rogue had to play catch-up despite being the favoured team of this match, slowing things down to defend turrets and trying to look for any potential picks coming up. Rogue converged on Top Esports as the latter team went after a dragon, but the latter team just wiped Rogue off the map and got the dragon to boot. Rogue was playing desperately at this point, but couldn’t help slipping the further this match went on. Rogue started losing Tier 3 turrets and soon after, Top Esports was on the Nexus. Rogue put up a very weak defense here, and its competitor took the win.

Top Esports was putting on a good show here, even if it came a little late. Both DRX and Top Esports were on even footing when they came to a head in (what was supposed to be) the final match of the day. This game progressed at a slow crawl, both teams electing to farm gold and only pick up the occasional kill rather than risk it all over a premature skirmish. The second dragon spawning saw Top Esports go 5-3 kills with the dragon in its pocket, finally tipping the scales in one team’s favour. The team went on to widen this gap by picking up more kills, but DRX still had a shot with a slight 3k gold deficit but equal map control.

Things looked dire for DRX in the endgame however, after Top Esports took down a Baron with four dragons in its pocket. The team broke into the DRX’s base with a dominant lead. The enemy team collapsed, and Top Esports won the game to take a strong finish in Worlds 2022 overall. By winning both of its last games of the day, DRX and Rogue were forced into a tiebreaker to decide which team would lead the Group C standings.

The tiebreaker began with Rogue gaining the upper hand, pocketing two kills while it chipped away at objectives. A skirmish in the top lane allowed DRX to turn the tables however, going 4-4 kills with a turret down. Rogue wasn’t doing a whole lot to protect its turrets in the early game, allowing the enemy team to gain all midlane turrets before it managed to take one of its own. Rogue entered the late game with very little map control and a 5k gold deficit, allowing DRX to push into the midlane and snag an inhibitor with a few kills for good measure. This pushed the game heavily in DRX’s favour, and the team continued to stomp Rogue for a win.

Tomorrow will see the final day of the Group Stage play out, as teams in Group D vie for a spot in the playoffs.
