WCG05: StaR & Vanilica

[s]event_10[/s]

With the WCG 2005 Finals starting in just a few days we at GosuGamers.net will be interviewing several competitors before the tournament. Today, I managed to get a few words from two members of Play.it: StaR and Vanilica.

With much anticipation growing about this year's World Cyber Games finals, we at GosuGamers.net will be doing our best to bring you the most up-to-date coverage that we can. Our very own
Sweden Mazor will be leaving for Singapore tomorrow where he will be keeping us all updated. Unfortunately, there's still a few more days to wait, so I have decided to start interviewing some players before they compete in this years event.

The first player that I talked to finished in 1st place at WCG Italy. He's seen as one of the best players in his country. Even though, before WCG, he seemed to have been going through quite a slump in his play. He isn't as famous or popular as many of the other competitors, but don't let that fool you. When he plays at the top of his game he can be one of the most deadly Protosses in Europe.

First off, can I get your name, age, location?
- Alessandro Volpe, 22, Pescara (Italy)

How have you prepared so far for this years WCG finals?
- Much training with players LaMer, Enemy, Cloud, Midian, etc.

How much games have you been playing each day to practice?
- In the last two weeks I have been playing at least 15-20 games a day normally.

What do you think of the maps this year. Any you do or don't like?
- I like the map this year much better than last years. The old WCG maps suck ^_^. I like all of the new maps except for Azaela because it's imbalanced against zerg.

How confident do you feel in your play? You have players like Advokate, Fayth, Suker, Blast, and your teammate Vanilica in your group. Do you feel as though you have a chance to qualify?
- It depends on the map and if I play without making any errors in late game. I believe that I have a chance to get top 3 or 4 in the group though.

What are your predictions about the top 3 this year?
- #1 Xellos, #2 ForU, #3 Blackman/Silent_Control/Testie

Are there any players that you're looking forward to meeting at the tournament?
Yes, I met many players at ECG in 2003, but I look forward to meeting Suker, Zelias, Fisheye, etc.

When will you be leaving for Singapore?
- Monday, the 14th of November

Have you start to preparing for your trip yet?
- Tonight, I will be taking a train to Milano because I don't want to wait 6 hours on Sunday.

Are you goin to Singapore with the rest of the Italian competitors?
- Yes.

Ok, is there anything else you would like to add before you compete in the tournament?
- Yes, I will win for sure! (joke)

He managed to finish in 1st place at WCG Serbia and Montenegro for the second consecutive time. Last year, he competed in the WCG finals, but wasn't able to make it out of his group. However, at ECG, he showed his true skill, but eventually lost to Spain ALFA, 1 - 2 in three great games.

First off, can I get your name, age, location?
- Srdjan, 19, Belgrade (Serbia).

How have you prepared so far for this year's WCG finals?
- I must admit that this year I haven't been preparing as hard as I had last year. My university has started so I spend most of my time there.

How much games have you been playing each day to practice?
- Like 3-4.

What do you think of the maps this year. Any you do or don't like?
- I really like them and I think they are far better and much more balanced then the last few years.

How confident do you feel in your play? You have players like Advokate, Fayth, Suker, Blast, and your teammate StaR in your group. Do you feel as though you have a chance to qualify?
- Honesly, I don't think that I have much of a chance to qualify, since those players are really good and it would take a lot of practice to be able to win. I think my advantage would be last year's experience and to be able to relax just as if I was playing at home. However, I don't think I would be able to win both suker and fayth, or suker and advokate.

What are your predictions about the top 3 this year?
- Pj, Xellos, and Silent_Control in any order.

Are there any players that you're looking forward to meeting at the tournament?
Lamer, Star, Cloud, Lowely, ut)octoberzerg, blackman, enemy, and all of the players that I met last year.

When will you be leaving for Singapore?
- Monday, the 14th of November. It will take us 22 hours (since we wait 8h in Paris for the plane to Singapore).

Are you goin to Singapore with the rest of the Serbia and Montenegro competitors?
- Yes, 9 players + 2-3 sponsors and organizers. I hope that I will have a really great time there and have fun~~.

Ok, is there anything else you would like to add before you compete in the tournament?
- Well, we will all have great time there, and i will certainly enjoy it and let the best win.

Please stayed tuned for interviews with many more competitors.
