For me, it is definitely more enjoyable than WC3. I got more frustrated by WC3 than I will ever be with SC2. But yes, it isn't as enjoyable as SC BW. There is too many stuff that changed the game.

Few days ago I was watching Flash vs. Jaedong two SC BW games, and was amazed how much action those games got in comparison to any SC2 games that I've watched. Just so much multitasking, micro, macro, everywhere.

Problem is, they changed population cost with some units, because units are stronger here(in some way), so you can't make them in masses as you could in SC BW. That is why, losing 20 Roaches matters a lot here, where in SC BW losing 20 Hydras won't be anything special.

They also made whole game to works around ball vs. ball of units, a little to no multitasking at all, and micro is pretty much simplified. I like the thing that in the new expansion, they add the units that will kind of make the SC BW feel in SC2(even if it isn't intentional), and they want to distinct from the ball of death.

One day, I hope, we will see SC2 be as good as SC BW, or at least close enough. I still like to watch competitive games, they are awesome, but not even close to be as good as SC BW.

Well for me its just the same as Broodwar or Warcraft3 in terms of having fun.
Well i think its a bit more fun than wc3 and a bit less then BW but not by too much.

Ofc its different gameplay wise.
SC1 was all about mechanics = macro and micro skills with okayish timing
U could play 1 simple macro BO every game every MU and as long as your macro and micro was fine u could go to like C+ with it without problems (that would be like high diamond in SC2)
Also SC1 felt very very direct gameplaywise to me.
Everything u did had instant effect on getting a feelable advantage or disadvantage ingame.

It was not soo much important what u did in SC1
It was important that u did it with good micro and excellent macro...

Ofc there were a Ton of BOs and such stuff but it was enough to be at better mid level when u knew like 1-2 BO for every MU as long as your mechanis were fine

Wc3 was a pure micro game for me.
All u did was running around the map and kill the most stuff while not losing a single unit. WC3 was all about using your army till it was down to like 10HP every unit and then flee withput dying.
Also WC3 felt kinda indirect to me

Like most stuff u do ingame would give u no noticable advantage at first but lots of small things will accumulate and therefore u will have a big advantage 10 minutes later from things u did 10 minutes ago.
Warcraft 3 was fun since u had incredible micro possibilities in battle but i really loved BW a lot more.

Starcraft 2 feels to me like a Bo > Bo game + micro mostly
Having the right BO counters is soooo important in SC2

Unlike in Sc1 in SC2 when doing the wrong BO in many cases u lose the game instantly :(
However i really think the strategic part in SC2 Midgame is for the most part much bigger than in SC1.
There is so much stuff u can do midgame to try and get advantages ... its insane.

I love sc2

^ Pretty much.

Also, it has to be said that SC2 is the game of hard counters. Where in SC BW, in late game you had almost same army composition, like Zealots, Archons, HTs, Dragoons vs. Lings, Ultras, Defilers, Hydras(and the rest of the game you fight with it), in SC2 you have constantly army(tech) switching, because some units are just way too good against the other. No matter what positioning or whatever you got, you just can't play Infestor, Ling, Ultras vs. Archons, Immortals, Zealots and HTs. Your Ultras are basically useless, they die from few simple focuses of Immortals, while your lings die to psi storm.

Of course, micro matters a lot, but sometimes, you simply can't do anything. And what I don't like also in SC2 is that it greatly penalize mistakes. If you miss one Force Field, the Zerg might found the way to the your army and you are dead. If you don't spread your banelings enough, they will ALL die from a single Siege Tank shot, but if Terran manages to kill 25 Banelings instead of 26, that one Baneling will kill like 30 Marines. If you clump your Mutas for a second, while macroing, they will all die to a single Thor etc etc...

Yes, the blob vs blob is a problem I think in SC2.

Especially in some matchups like TvP and PvZ, there is usually one giant battle and then it's all over. No gradual grinding or anything like that.

I can see how this will change in HotS but not for the PvZ matchup.

But one of my biggest problems with the game is how redundant high ground is. In BW there was a 25% change that a unit would miss hitting a unit on high ground. That was HUGE.

There is very little advantage in high ground in SC2 as most units have essential units that they always get, and they spot high ground anyway. For example, a Terran army will never face the problem of having to fight against high ground vs a Zerg or Protoss or Terran since they always make medivacs and vikings. Same with Protoss, with their Colossus in every matchup.

Having said that, I do enjoy SC2 but I feel Blizzard needs to fix some fundamental mistakes in the game, which I have a feeling they know they caused.

i think wc3 was more fun and i played it more regularly than sc2 because of the Bnet tournaments in the game. There are times when i played sc2 a lot and somes times i dont, this wasnt like that in wc3 because of this tournaments which took place 3 or 4 times a week.

yes , that nails it.

There is no room for small erros in sc2 for the most part.

While in Sc1 there was like
-very slight error ,
-slight error
-mid error ,
-big error ,
-instant death error

in sc2 there is only

- 0 error
- instant death in many scenarios

I think this is also the reason for foreigner SC2 sceene being so incredibly close.
Everyone in the TOP 60 can win a BO3 vs anyone at any day because of this.

In Sc1 there were the gus like Sen,Testie,Mondi,Draco who would have like 85% winrates vs the best other foreigners ...
in SC2 its like 55-45 always everybody vs everybody since the slightest error can mean your death even if u are better in general

Actually, if Mass Recall stays on Nexus, I can see multifront attacks and harassment changed also in PvZ matchup. That will give great potential for Protoss players to harass on multiple locations with Oracles/Void Rays/Warp Prisms/Blink Stalkers, while recalling units if they get in great danger. We will see.

I got to diamond the first few seasons, then stopped playing for about 8 months due to work and other stuff. I started playing again recently and I have to say, the skill cap has increased quite a lot since 8 months ago. Now I'm in gold and having a difficult time against diamond and platinum. But that's ok, the mechanics of sc2 are not so difficult like in sc1 so it wont be long til I catch up. For player perspective I'm still enjoying the game quite a lot.

I agree with pretty much everyone that the mechanics of sc2 is that much easier. That's also why so chobo players like me can still enjoy the game and win a few games here and there. While this may seem like a reason to rant about the game on a professional level, its also a good thing because the competition becomes much greater, unlike in sc1 where its always those same 10 guys staying on top. So from a spectator perspective I enjoy SC2 more than BW.

I did enjoy for a while, but after i get soo annoyed about how unfair this game can be.Skip that part wich race op and stuffs couse i think thats very situational.
Totaly agree with #6 that u make a small fail and even a lower guy than can abuse soo hard that do loss the game there.Thats why i did stop sc2 like 2 months ago.Since that i do came back to gg.net to look around couse i think
i will play this game again(like did with bw played about 6 years with some month or even a year a stop)

I find it more and more annoying as time passes, so much so that I stopped playing 1v1, I just play 2v2 with IRL friends.

And I went back to iCCup

I quit playing about a year ago. Since beta I was explaining my feelings and opinions on several forums and posts and nothing important changed. And it can't really, because there are major flaws in the design.
Maybe I will be here alone and you may call me harsh, but SC2 in its current state is not worth of time.
I do totally agree with opinion that one day SC2 could be as good as SC:BW, but it will take 4-5 years and only under the condition that blizzard will rethink many things (unlikely IMO).

1. Do you remember UFO:Enemy unknown game? Well, why all the remakes sucked hard? Even in 3d, new weapons, mixed realtime and turnbased combat...It has nothing to do with nostalgy...You cant improve indefinitely, there is a breakpoint beyond things just go worse.

2. You cant have hardcore competitive game (SC:BW) and the same game for casual gamers and this is exactly what blizzard tries to achieve. I seriously wait for the day they decide which way is better and adjust what is needed.

The worst thing about this game is blob vs blob and most of the time only 1 battle to decide things

that doesnt make things as exciting..

also I miss many tricks that were essentialy bugs in BW but they made the game so interesting..

also the maps are not as good as in BW..

thats all imo

#15 yeah...nothing much has changed since beta.

I used to play BW with some dude i never met in western europe just because we like the epic battles. We were p v t. Tanks bio turret supply and terran structure on the battle field blocking my toss zealot suicide tank, mass dagoons, +arbitors.

Doesnt matter who went all in, the game does not end there. Pushing back and forth, god it was fun and intense.

Starcraft 2 is a big failure if you going to compare to SC1.
