Over-extension in my opinion. GG.net is doing too much at the same time.

But who knows for sure.

Keep it focused!!! Close those redundant sections!

Edit:

The Koreans have left as well

"Oasis was getting ready to leave as well, he was just waiting for me to make the decision, he's gone too. Galaxy/Royal already left as well, Oasis was just waiting to see my choice.

I suppose I'll wait for GG.net to make their announcement before I announce my reasonings etc."

Sigh how many times has it have to be stressed: every crew member here works voluntarily. We're not paid or anything. Closing down sections won't cut costs in anyway but instead just reduce traffic to the site.

I know that. People work for free in a lot of community websites, but you dont see them covering every single competitive game out there.

But a HoN player probably wont care much about a SC2 proteam anyway. It reduces interest on all fields, segregates the people by visiting multiple sections. People dont want a jack-of-all-trades and expect to also have a SC2 proteam, with all the support and money it requires, unless its some giant, which I dont think GG.net is at the moment. Viewers eventually will seek a SC2 specialist, a W3 specialist and for sure a WoW specialist, all these reducing views. And less views = less money, not to mention reduced interest for a proteam. I mean there are threads on HoN, WoW that havent even got a single reply and are 1 month old lol. Look at the Poker news section, 0 replies on almost all the news threads! That to me is indicative of activity and views.

I would admit that DotA is really big on GG.net though, which is one of the things it should focus more. I have also seen great leaps on the SC2 coverage, which is great.

This is obviously going beyond the point of the topic but I had my doubts on this team from day 1, judging from how this site is managed, which is incredibly sad considering the talent involved on players, editors etc.

I just dont understand the focus of GG.net anymore.

Yeah I totally get the whole point about forum inactivity. But imo it's more because of alternative sites though. Take our HoN forum for example, with an official HoN forum for everything including competitive discussion, pretty much everything is discussed there. Not to mention at least there HoN players would be less exposed to abuse from DotA fanatics (esp during the earlier days)

One of the reasons faith is still put in other sections of the site is probably the same reason the DotA section still exists and is as big as it is today. It was no where near the "main thing" of GG back in the day and look how that turned out.

Having said that, I actually am as clueless as you regarding the situation of the proteam.

Exactly what I'm saying.

You being a Senior Editor for HoN makes me happy to see that there is some agreement to this situation.

^ there is the official DotA forum, you dont see the GG.net dota forum being less used because there is an official forum for the game, like HoN.

The reason the HoN part of GG.net is doing so bad is because of the poor updates... I dont know if its just that nothing happens in the HoN scene, but it can be weeks, in some cases ive seen months between news articles on the HoN page. It has been quite updated resently during DHW, but if you compare it to the dota2 or sc2 section, its still updated way less.

I however do not understand why there is a Poker, WoW or Diablo 3 page on GG.net

Those who care about poker have poker-only-sites that they rather read up on, WoW is not even a competative game and the changelogs / news from blizzard can be read on the wow website.. and the same about D3.

The expanding of GG.net is awesome and this is one of the few websites that i visit atleast a few times per day, but i think that GG should not expand in width.. but on the height... i mean, not include more games.. but instead add more to the games they are already covering.

So instead of a Poker / D3 / WoW site, add a SC2 / DotA2 team, find more staff for the HoN section. Maybe add some cool new features, organize more tournaments. Expand within the games you are covering instead of adding more games will also prevent that some other site gets ahead of GG.net and take alot of traffic from this site to theirs.

Oh well now ive been ranting on for way too long about something that is way off topic, but this is just my two cents.

peace

playdota only came about relatively late though compared to when dota was about. I remember actively surfing the big 2 DotA sites at the time, DA and DP fairly regularly.

Our HoN section on the other hand, is quite opposite. By the time it was established with the world cup there was already the official forums, GR and Honcast. Not to mention that with a HoN account you automatically gain access to the official forums, whereas most people can't be bothered to register here since they can just read articles without logging in.

Sorry about the lack of content for the past few months, personally I have been busy with school and lack internet in my new apartment (in library atm) but we've just got some new editors so we should be bouncing back up in terms of content soon.
