Though now one year old, Starcraft II still retains much mystery as players try to figure out what it'll take to have long term, consistent success. To date, only an elite few have managed to ride the wave of consistency in this early period of Starcraft II's growth... among them sits Old Generations's Choi “TheStC” Yun Sik.

During the beta, the Korean Terran player was considered one of the best and a leading name to dominate once the game went gold. Unfortunately, his riseHu to stardom was temporarily hampered by his choice to serve his time in the Korean military.

Now, though, TheStC has hung up his uniform, and has once again picked up the mouse and suited up for professional play... and he's already put together an impressive string of accomplishments, from a third place finish at MLG Orlando to his place in November's GSL Code A.

Now, Old Generations's fastest rising star talks with us concerning his recent results, his thoughts on the game, his expectations for Heart of the Swarm, and much, much more.

First of all, thank you much for taking the time to answer a few questions. You were very popular during the beta, but ran into the obstacle of mandatory military service. For those who're just getting to know you, could you give us a brief introduction and catch everyone up on what's been going on with you since beta?

Hello, my name is Choi Yun Sik. I am 24 years old and I am a terran player for the team oGs. I have been playing SC2 since the beta, but because I had to fulfill my duties as a Korean male, I was unable to attend SC2 events as I was taking care of my military obligations. Since this May, I have finished my time in the military and have been practicing together with my teammates at the teamhouse. Each and every day, I am practicing extremely hard with my teammates with the goal of one day winning the GSL.

You recently completed your national service. What was your thought process behind choosing to serve your country when you did, even though you were already building a following during the beta? Was it because the game was still new?

Since I was already taking care of my military obligations when SC2 came out, there was nothing I could do. However, I was lucky in that my duties were similar to a day job (where I would go home after my work was done), so I was able to enjoy playing SC2 in my spare time after work.

When you were in the army, were you at all concerned about your StarCraft II career? Were you confident about returning to the top despite the obvious lack of time to practice during your service?

At first, I was debating whether or not I would come back to the progaming world, but once I picked SC2 up, my mind was already made up. However, I knew that I would definitely be behind because I was only able to practice alone for short periods of time after work. Therefore, once I was done with my military service, I came right away to the teamhouse and began learning everything that I can.

You recently made the journey to the United States to compete at MLG Orlando, where you finished third place. What did you think of the U.S., and of MLG?

It was really hard getting through the MLG open bracket, but I could really feel the energy from all the American fans cheering me on so that was really great! The fan support and their passion for the game truly made me realize why I have stayed as a progamer and will continue to do so!

Oh, and by the way, I really like the U.S.! Other than the fact that eating out is a little bit more expensive, everything else was awesome! I loved shopping at outlets and getting great deals, and I loved the fact that the houses were arranged so beautifully like a well designed base-- sim-city! [Laughs]

I would say my time in the U.S. was great enough to say that once I earn enough money, I might live in the U.S. one day.

Following HuK's championship run at Orlando, would you say this has solidified him as the best Protoss player in the world, or does he still have a way to go until he earns that title?

I definitely have to agree. When you look at the recent results he’s been posting and his current form, you have to give Huk the number 1 protoss spot. I believe he is definitely a player capable of holding that spot. However, I will say this, during practice, MC is still the scary player that he once was, and I am not just saying this because I am his teammate. I think right now, I think he’s just lost his form in competitions, but he will be back! [Laughs]

I am not totally sure but as far as I know, they must join army before they turn 27 and for one year or two, I can't remember.

From the words of other people, they said that Korean military is like a curse. Everyone musts do it, and it lasts for 2 Years. Don't quote me on that, it is just what I've heard.
