I must to ask how old are you ?
Why the hell do you want to be better at starcraft ?
If you dont wanna be progamer there is no point for raising your skill
Raising skill in sc is time consuming and hard as hell if you do it without good coaches...

If your not going to be progamer just play on d/d+ level on iccup on garena/hamachi just for fun... and get some real life skills.

Real life skills are far more important than SC skills !

BTW. training apm alone is bad idea it will give your bad habits.
If you really wanna improve just ask for coaching on gg.net.

Overall tips for chobos:

1. Play with at least level above your skill players and analyze replays with somone who could explain you all the things that you are doing wrong. (you will not notice everything alone)

2.If you dont have such a person around you must gain some knowledge from replays (real good gosureplays) (and you must watch thousands of them and analyze it as hard as possible on normal/slowest speed)

3. Record yourself on camera while playing.(monitor and keyboard).
You will notice this way in which point of game you are slowing down and you can also monitor your concentration and bad emotions this way.(it's mind game).
You can also practice with metronome setted on 80 BPM. Click just twice as fast as metronome count... but dont concentrate on clicking that much. EAPM will raise naturally with your skill and its much more important than APM.

Playing with = or < players to you can be fun but you wont improve. remember no pain no gain !

Tip on playing ICCUP.
- learn good manners
- dont play with players below your level
- always choose MOTW
- always use safe strats
- try to avoid koreans (in 75% cases its instant lose for low skilled player)
- dont create games named "noobs only" ,or smth like that beacouse good player will only abuse you. Always change game name if you are creating one.

The answer lies within...

Only playing with better players will mainly lead to frustation, you have to also play same skilled players, to actually have a lategame and make real use of your strategies.
Playing always a better player who can deny anything you do, makes you think everything is bad, and doesn't need to be done, playing lower skilled or same skilled players shows you if it can actually do damage, maybe then due to the player not paying enough attention, or whatever, but the timing thing is a huge different on the different skill levels. Playing versus better players can ofc show you some things, but doesn't neccessarily do so.

I played for about 6-7 years and the highest rank I ever got was C-. The only time I got that high was when I played a lot, so I reckon the only thing you really get you high up is massgaming if you've "hit the wall". Or you may just lack talent, like I do :P

So, I guess the question is if you'd like to have a life and play on the side and sucking at it, or would you rather spend hours upon hours each day to become übergosu in a pretty dead game, at the cost of your social life?

Training and putting thoughts into it =) Maybe join some C-/C lvl clan and play with the members, they will help you out with the games.

the thing is the fun you get from starcraft grows exponentially with your skills ( or to say 'rank' )

Thats a terrible idea. Considering Koreans are majority of the time better.

Sure he's going to lose but thats how you learn from your mistakes and grow at at a faster rate to enhance and hone in on your skills.

Honestly if you want to get good this is what you need to do.

- Dedicate time to it. Experiment with alot of strategies/builds/build comps/etc...
- Watch your replays. Every game whether its a win or a loss because every game is going to have something different in. Stuff you could have done better or modified or even different timings.
- Put forth the effort to continuously play people whether they are better than you or the same skill. Dont play people who are at a lower skill level than yourself unless its friends.

Stick to that and just play anywhere from 8-16 hours a day and you should be solid in a few months to a year.

Playing with worse player than you isn't neccesarily bad. I.E trying out a new strategy against a better player and see you fail might make u throw it away, but against a worse player it might actually work. So you can go and sharpen it up a bit to later try it against the better player.
In this way you can actually test your new things instead of just fail against the better player and give up the idea.
Im not saying you should only play against worse players than you to improve, but it's not always wrong for this kind of scenarios.

Like day9 said, trying out new things on better players makes you see what dosen't work while trying it out on worse players makes you see what COULD work.

SC is a game for the thinking man. Practicing a lot will only get you so far (though quite far I must admit).
The main reasons for one player being more successful than another are preparation and mindset.
A strategist with a cool head beats a raging hothead in the long run. The reason is not that rage is bad, if under control it can be quite effective.
The real reason is that a cool head can analyze situations more accurately and is more likely to make reasonable decisions.

Whenever something has worked, realize that it actually has worked. When something hasn't worked, realize that as well. The reason why one player improves and the other doesn't usually lies in their awareness.
I'm reading your mind. Think of something.

thx etbrood :) and for others - playing loads of time is out of concer. reasons - i dont want to, it doesnt work for me (i usually go on losing streaks when mass playing), and its not possible in my actuall situation(living in a dormhouse). but maybe as etbrood said, analyzing game while playing it could be better, just if i could combine it with perfected mechanics.
maybe its like, you have to make a trigger in your mind - "macro dude, make some drops, multitask". oh maybe i dont put enough attention to my battles :D

Well, imo 80% of ICCUP users make C- or C and then reset stats even when they could make better, just because they wanna win. Just see sometimes how many games all have, and percentage of winrate on D+/C- . I personally think it is rly lame...

The question is: why would you not want to practice SC? Is there any difference between now and eight years ago in the foreign scene? Maybe there are less players, but does that change anything?

Getting better at Starcraft is just as easy as anything else.

What you put in is what you will get out. If you put a little bit in, you will only get a little bit out. If you put a whole lot in, you will get a whole lot out.

And don't take too much advice from foreign players. If you are going to go out and seek a coach find a good Korean player (Probably at least B+ skill). If you think taking advice from a foreign player will help your skill, watch the WCG.
