Hey there, I've been playing SC1 for a little while now. I love playing as Zerg, but I have a few questions

Being the person I am, I always like playing games competetively, I know that the bar for SC is very high, but I like playing this game and I want to try and get better at this, can anyone point me towards some good Zerg guides for beginner players?

Also, as the game is normally always played on "Fastest", should one start playing on that speed immediatly? Or is it a good idea to play on normal first to get used to everything?

Here's a good guide I guess. :)
You're not gonna get anyone to play normal or fast with you so fastest it is.

no, vs AI you will feel like you're jaedong coze there is no multitasking, so it's fake training you won't make any progress.

The best guides for Zerg are collected at www.teamliquid.net in the Liquipedia. The best source by far, but will get you nowhere as long as you don't try to play vs. other human persons. Do not even try to play against the CPU, you will learn nothing. If you know what each unit is for, go around and download replays. Here, over at tl.net or at www.iccup.com.

I recommend to play on www.iccup.com - it's late season now, so you'll prolly find lower level players. But don't think you won't get raped like shit - that's quite normal for new beginners.
If you read strategy guides, compare them to standard replays you download. I recommend to look at iccup for the clan leagues. When you search a bit, you'll see that you can download the reps from those clan wars. Those replays are not really entertaining most times, but feature - as said - a lot of standard play. You can learn a lot while watching them, when a build fails, when it succeeds and more.
Try to make friends in the ladder, add them to your friends list, and search for other beginners, you can train without using the ladder system. This provides more fun.

1. Start finding and picking up good friends who play 1v1. Find a friend who plays zerg and just play with them. ALOT. Join a nice little ladder gaming clan. When I started wanting to do SC1 competitively (before falling out of the whole gaming thing) all my friends on my friends list were better than me.

2. Watch Replays. Guides are good, but replays will show you how REAL competitive players build. Study these with those friends of yours too, they'll point things out that you wouldn't have ever seen.

3. He does a lot of SC2 game casting now, but look up Day[9]. He will tell you things that you can apply (because their principles not practices) in SC1.

If you don't mind how little SC2 takes, then go to SC2 it will have more people. SC1 is more of a classic game and will last on larger than other old Blizzard games such as Diablo.

play what is fun for you, do not care which game has more people, if you want to have fun and if you enjoy SCBW, then play SCBW and practice and study it to your likes!
