did anyone know about shift waypoint? (7341 reads, 11 replies, 1 year ago)
so i played starcraft 2 and noticed if i hold shift while right clicking, i get like a waypoint command for the selected units. then i tried this in starcraft 1 and it works only for build/warping 1 structure and then you can have it mine right away afterwards. now i have less ideled SCVs.

yea, pretty old;)
You can make your unit patrol between more than 2 points with this.
Just let it move or attackmove to one location, then, while it's still moving there, you let it shift patrol to three different locations, and it will run between those 3 places all the time;o

i never use shift for probe scout, because it needs a second to change the direction, which is immediate death versus zerglings;O

don't listen to that.
Yes, it helps alot.
Just give the order to make a building and then shiftclick on the minerals, then you don't have to worry about it anymore. However, if you have insuffient amounts of minerals/gas at the time the unit arrives there, the building will not be build, and instead the worker will go to the next waypoint now.
Also it sometimes can happen that you miss shift, or don't press it in time and then the worker will just go back to the minerals, and if you do something else then and wait for your pylon to finish you can be kinda frustrated lossing the game because a pylon you needed to make more units wasn't build>_>'

A unit can get up to 10 or 12 waypoints, i don't know the exact number, but at some point it tells that it has reached the maximum (can be used for corsairs to check for overlords, for example).

Shift is also useful to get idle workers to work that are sitting around in the middle of other busy workers. You select the idle workers (together with busy ones), then hold shift and command them to mine minerals.
Beware though not to select gas mining workers because they'll go for the minerals as well then.
Of course you can send them to mine gas instead of minerals, also carefully not selecting mineral mining workers.
I'm reading your mind. Think of something.

Isn't it like when you command a unit to build something then resources are spent when you make a command, not when unit arrives to the place where you want to build it...?

When it arrives to the point and starts making the building it spends the resources then, but you cannot command it go make something if you have insufficient balance for the building =)

You have 150 minerals and you shift command your probe to go and make a gateway, then you can make a probe or zealot. But you need to harvest enough money so your probe can make the gateway when it arrives to the destination. If you have less than 150 when it arrives to the destination it will just return/go where you shiftordered it to go.
