I am making an interview with RET, about sc, sc2 impressions, about tsl, his courage appearance, about korea, progaming house etc...here you can post any questions you would like ret to answer...i will pick some, and ask ret... edit. here you go HI RET. Thanks for coming. Lets start. How did you choose nickname? What means RET and does it have some special meaning? Hehe its kinda boring actually... just a name of my friend used when I started playing SC, and then at first I would always play on his account. So I just kept the name.. so no special meaning.....various people like to say it comes from 'ret'ard though. D: You started playing starcraft with zerg from beginning? No, I started out with all races, then switched to zerg on expansion sc bw....later mixed in some terran because I got bored of ZvZ...and now I'm back to Zerg only again :P Do you think there is "imba" race in starcraft or is it perfectly balanced? I think it's pretty balanced. Historically though Z>P and T>Z. SC always goes through phases where one race does better than the other, in the end it's all pretty even. If you could, what would you change in starcraft? I would change the matchup 'ZvZ' to 'Muta vs scourge UMS', just so the build order luck wins dissappear completly...anything else I wouldnt really change ^^ What do you think about modern SC? Do you think that there's much room left for inventions? Hmmm... right now the game seems 'figured out'..the only thing we will see is trend switches, for example if all terrans start 8 raxing then all zergs will pool first or drone scout very early, things like that. Go few fast questions. Favorite map? Heartbreak ridge. Favorite matchup? ZvZ.. But not best mu. :) Didnt expect that one :D Favorite unit? Mutalisk. Can you do that crazy dance like july with 2 groups of muta? :) Hehe i've tried it sometimes... I'm not as good as july or jaedong, but i don't lose all my mutas either :) Do you practice alot muta micro? In Ums or in games? Llately I have been playing a bit of ums muta vs scourge, for zvt/zvp i just play real games, no special practice. Favorite research? Plague. Ok,lets talk about tsl. What is your opinion about league and what are your seeings of TSL? I think the tournament will absolutely be great, teamliquid did a great job with the last one, and this one will only be better. I'm really excited, not only to play but also to watch the games and listen to the casts, and just follow the tournament all around being a SC fan. You are one of the top contenders. What do you think who will be your biggest rival? I think Idra, and zerg players will give me the most trouble What do you think about players that got banned for abusing? There were pretty known names such as dimaga, advokate, f91... What do you think about cheating? It's crazy, the entire rox team was involved basically, brat_ok got lucky he didn't have to play the ladder because he would abused too lol. Well, cheating obviously is very bad and should be punished, but I am sad for players like Dimaga, who are really skilled and are now facing bans on gg.net and tl.net, just because they got some free wins. TSL groups are set. Comment about your group? It seems pretty hard... Flaf, G5 and Cloud. Not an easy group, but I can't complain because I will probably have to play a ZvP to advance to TOP16, wether it be Cloud or G5 it won't be easy, but I think I can pass Prizes are big in TSL, what would you do with money if u win? Maybe finance a vacation with it or something in summer, no special plans besides that. Your comment about famous game on tsl vs idra? The one he says, "you won without doing a single thing". Does things like this inspire you in next game to win? Haha well, he was kinda right in the sense I did nothing but camp, but I just did what I needed to do to win. His comments never really bother me, it's all in good fun. What do you think about idra? He's a good kid. I've always gotten along with him just fine, too many people take the trashtalk too serious. If noone was like him then following SC would be boring, there has to be a person to hate. And he's obviously a really strong player as well, he's improved a lot while he's in Korea. He deserves some credit, because he was treated like shit by Koreans for a long long time, and he just hung in there, to eventually become as good as he is now. Pick one. Beer or wine? Beer by a mile. Pizza or hotdog? Pizza. Football or basketball Football. Blonde or brunette? Hm..hard one! :D My girlfriend is blonde but i will have to say brunette sorry Better she don't read this :D Logitech or razer? Razer, even tho I use logitech mini optical for sc. Now toughest one. Ret or idra? Ret :-O Lets talk about korea... How did you decided to go there? Actually I got really angry after losing the ESL final to Idra 3-2 and 3-1, than I msged artosis saying 'Get me to korea, I'm tired of losing to this guy'. It started kind of as a joke, but then I started really considering it and decided to give it a real try out here. It was always one of my dreams when I was younger :) How did your parents react? Korea is far away from home... They were very supportive, they knew that the game was obviously a big part of my life, especially after I won dreamhack and my trip to Blizzcon, so they just left me free to make my choice and would support in whatever I did. What was on your mind when you were in plane for korea? Hehe I was trying to sleep, and at the same time I was obviously very excited about arriving in the country that's every sc fan's dreamworld. For how long are u expecting to be there? I'm not really sure, lately things haven't been going so well here, so we'll have to see how things go with the next courage tournament ( 27 december ), and some other stuff, I can't really comment about as of right now. Which goals will you set for yourself in your progaming career? Ofc if you will succeed in courage and win pro license... Ideally I would become an A team member, and play proleague for any team. How is time now in Korea? Winter same as here? Cold and snowy? I dont know about croatia, but it's quite a bit colder than the Netherlands. -10 C with nasty winds, it's not so pleasent to walk the streets. No snow though, and weather changes all the time so maybe in a few days it'll be warmer again. What about food? How is it, does it taste good? The food in restaurants is really nice, lots of meat, and LOTS of rice...but I really enjoy all of it. Have you learned to eat with sticks? Haha :) I was a lot worse when i got here, but I'm not exactly a gosu yet :P Lets go back to the game. Do you pratice alot? How many hours a day u play? While under a schedule, it's 12 hours a day of playing/watching vods or replays...perhaps 9 of those 12 were spent playing. Lately it's been more like 5-6 a day, but I will make it more starting tomorrow untill courage. What are your strong/weak points in SC? Strong points is probably macro and overall game plan...weak points are probably micro, and descision making in difficult situations. What would you like to improve in your play? Muta micro is something that always can be improved, and also one always strives to become smarter, and have better game sense. Most of that is just practise though, the more you find yourself in a certain situation, the easier it will be the next time u are in it. What are your impressions about 1st appearance on Courage? You lost in a game vs winner of that courage, he got pro license instead you... Well, I had a really tough opponent first round when I wasn't even used to the setup yet. It was hard, but I think I can do better next time as long as I get some time to warm up, and maybe a little more sleep before the tournament :) Were you nervous before game? Hm, not really.I was 'curious' :D I had no idea about what to expect so I was constantly gauging my opponent's skill level, at first I actually thought he sucked, but then I changed my mind. We must mention SC2. How do you see it? Did you played it already? I played about 6 games at blizzcon, seems easy to play for a sc player, very similar feel to the game, looks like it has a lot of potential, but didn't play enough to have a good idea about strategies or balance. Will you play sc2 when released? Yes, planning on it :) Do you think sc2 will make success like sc? The first few years will be very good, lots of tournaments, and lots of people playing, if the game wants to survive past that stage, it has to be balanced/interesting enough to keep people playing, we'll see if it has that staying quality like SC does when it comes out. :) What do you think what will happen with sc when sc2 arrives? Do you think sc will live? Ooutside of Korea, no... in Korea it will live on for a while, maybe a year, then if SC2 is good enough it will take over Will you stop progaming if you dont win courage now and earn pro license? Hehe,I don't want to, but I might have to. I will keep trying my best even if I don't win courage, but it doesn't depend on me Morrow asked how is zvz going :) Going pretty good, i've definately improved a lot in zvz recently and I think I can compete with the best foreigners zvz easily.
