[AUS] State of Origin Aussie Tours (7062 reads, 4 replies, 2 years ago)

Only relevant to Australians, guys!

At the moment Pure Knight (from AUS-1 and BoredAussies) and myself are exploring how implementing a State of Origin competition for Australian StarCraft players would pan out.

There's no finalised structure for the competition yet, nor confirmed prizes or duration, but what we do have are a few ideas and foundations and what I need from you is expression of interest. Once we know the teams competing we can better work on the format and other details. I have not confirmed the details below with Pure Knight or anyone else but I thought I should get proactive and write something down.

What we have so far

Eligibility
--- If you were born in a particular state you are eligible for that state.
--- If you live in a particular state you are eligible for that state.
--- According to one of the above criteria, once you choose a state and teams are decided you cannot change it at any time.
--- Overseas-born players will be permitted, on the condition that they are permanent residents here and NOT just on a visa (for work or study).
--- Don't lie about which states you can represent.

Team Structure
--- New South Wales and ACT players will compete as a team.
--- Queensland and Norther Territory players will compete as a team.
--- South Australia and Western Australia players will compete as a team.
--- Victoria and Tasmania players will compete as a team.
--- Teams must consist of a minimum of 4 players, and a maximum of 8.
--- There will be a 'for fun' (no prize) training team or B-team with players who do not make the main team so they can still have fun playing for their state.
--- Team Captains will be decided by the highest seeded player who expresses interest in the team.
--- A state tournament will seed the players and decide who is in A or B teams.

Competition Structure
--- Clan War Structure, consisting of four 1v1 matches on predetermined maps and one 2v2 games. Lineups must be submitted prior to the scheduled match time.
--- Will be pretty flexible on when you complete them during the week because not everyone has as much time for SC as they used to. Instead of the two teams negotiating a time, the players will have the option to postpone their own game if the rest of the respective teams play at an inconvenient time.
--- Unsure of the length of the competition or the frequency. Over an entire iCCup season is too long but the Finals can't be too frequent.
--- Probably round-robin format, with each team playing each other at least once (maybe twice).
--- Depending on strength and numbers in the B-teams, they may or may not compete in the main competition.
--- Prizes and any other information I have missed here are undefined at this time.

What it might mean in the future

We can speculate about a lot of things for the SC SoO competition, such as possible revival of Team Aus. for Nation Wars (using SoO as a selection process or proving grounds), cash or hardware prizes, set up some grounds for competitive StarCraft 2 in Australia and many other things - such as fun and the chance to represent your state!

There is also the possibility of adding New Zealand in the future if the venture is successful.

What can we do now?

SIGN UP! Express your interest my PM or posting in this thread (or other sites like iCCup, BoredAussie, TeamAus, etc.). We are just getting initial headcounts and see who thinks they have the time to do this and who wants to participate in it.

The people who have expressed interest are below. Note that as eligibility rules are subject to change, so are the teams (e.g. for now I am eligible for NSW as I live here, and TAS as I was born there but if we think the 'born' rule should be removed then I will be applying for the NSW/ACT team... unfortunately B-team or C-team more likely cos I suck).
