is BETA limited? (10943 reads, 12 replies, 2 years ago)
Hey guys, i been noticing many competitions lately for BETA keys. And ive also noticed the "opt-in" for all users.

Will SC2 BETA be limited to some users who win contests? or to all who have the minimum computer requirements through the opt-in method?

Just a question of curiosity, because if its unlimited then we will have a lot more people transition then we thought.

it's limited and most of us will not be able to play the beta, unless there are illegal servers. dunno what you mean with opt-in method.

yeah, it's limited. The opt-in method allows blizzard to pick and choose what computer specs they wanna try running the beta on. Typically, they will pick a vast amount of different machine types and computer specs, so they can get a full understanding of what can and cannot run the game.

Your odds of being picked through the opt-in method are alot higher if you don't have the same type of machine as alot of other people. So, machines that are just a bit older or have all the specs except maybe the proper gfx card etc will be tested, over those that they already know for sure will run the game.

The minimum computer requirements is not what decides who'll get to play the beta through the opt-in. But if you have an odd setup of hardware you're probably also more likely to get picked. They want all sorts of hardware combinations to test the game on.

The beta is important because it will give us way more information about the game. And the game needs testers to make those patches that will, by time, balance the game.

Imo that part is very intersting, I'm glad I played bw when the spawning pool was 150 minerals, and hopefully I will experience something similar in SC2.
