NonY, JF, DinOt ??? This thread is like 1 year late, these guys aren't "rising stars" anymore - they are the top foreigners, have been for quite some time.

I'd say "rising stars" are people like DIMAGA, AeriALs, Handy, etc

i dunno about dimaga because i havnt played him lately but hes having alot of nice results lately(wcg ukraine and mym koth), skillwise i havnt seen him play since like 1 year so i cant really give any opinion on him

i felt i could always tell a players potential, i remember when tarson came for a test for mgz like 8-9 months ago and failed it, kaiser and deto didnt want to let him join but i begged them to let him join the team because i felt he was such a solid player, he just had some loose screws and problems like this u can easily fix with gaming with good players, they let him join and since that time if id show u reps of him u can easily see his progression, back then he wasnt known on the foreign scene at all but he was known in the polish scene well

aerials is a very solid player aswell and with some practice he can take his game to the next level, he has very good mechanics and knows how to play, all he needs to do is became more of a natural gamer (play freely without thinking much, i dont know how to really explain this or if anyone understands what i mean here) but if he keeps practicing with players like yosh and jf hes going to be awesome

and the player im the most impressed with is royce, i dunno if alot of you know about him but ive known him since sometime now, just the progress ive seen from him since like the last 2 weeks is pretty sick, all he needs to do too is to play without fear and be loose while u play(i dont mean this technick wise but mentally-wise), dont think alot while you play, gaming should come naturally to you, just watch replays and practice

to anyone whos looking for a nice prospect for leagues like wgtcl iccup cl or w/e you should seriously look at royce, with a team and good players to practice with he can really be helpful

Rising stars? The game is like ten years old. By now, the top players are going to be close to reaching their potential (if not already). The only thing that should boast their position in the foreign scene is people above them moving on to do other things. It's not like there is much to gain from playing a game that could be yesterdays news any month from now. "The best players who are still somewhat active" would be a better title.

About Spirit: Daniel Lee said it takes at least a year to even make a pro league roster. As if they really care about how we will fare in SC.

#48 Soccer is waaay older an there's still rising stars, and if you think starcraft is going away any month now you simply don't understand much, to be frank. It's a suitable title and focuses on something that should keep focus, rather than crying over spilled milk and think the world is coming to an end.

#44 aawe, again? =/

Yeah, dedicated players play for years, then all of the sudden become so much better. People with that kind of potential reach that level well before then.

If more money is involved in SC2, no competitive players are going to stick to SC. And I'm sure most people are banking on that happening.

I'm quite confident when saying that bw-players would rather play bw for on low money maps, rather than sc2 on money maps. And either way it will take at least one or two years before bw is getting near dead.

A lot of players may go from really good players to stars in that time. Depending on the talent, the reach of how far they go may surprise quite a lot.

In my honest opinion I think you're way too pessimistic and we'll most likely never agree on these subjects. I think you're way wrong and you probably think I'm way wrong.

The fact that you think I was talking about "money maps" should end the discussion.

I don't think reality is ever as cheery as you would hope it to be. There is a reason why a lot of top SC players have shifted to poker. To think SC2 won't have the same effect (even if the diff in money is small), that is naive. The skill level of these players isn't changing drastically, but the number who still play actively is dwindling.

You have no idea how that statement backfires at you.

If the effect of money was as sever as you seem to indicate, wouldn't pretty much the entire community change to poker? Not to mention the present day elite? Yes, a lot of really good players, not to mention legendary players, has switched over.

Nevertheless, that doesn't automatically prove that the bw community will die within a year or two. There is a shit load more money in the South-Korean pro league than there will be for a long time in the sc2-community, at least I find that the most likely. Poker and wc3, both having larger money flows, has been around for several years now - still bw is hanging on.

The money flow should also take some time to get really established in sc2 and seeing as bw has some of it's own and a lot of hardcore players, it'll take quite a time to kill it off.

My point is simply that it will take more than a year or two before bw is dead. I can agree on giving it five years but I would honestly not be surprised if it was still around that time - activly around.

It also depends grealy on how good a game sc2 is, as far as the bw gamers are concerned.

Until you become good enough, you don't really think or become aware of the lack of money in SC. Bottom line being; to stay at that level of play, it simply isn't worth it. Especially when there are better alternatives.

Some love the game enough to continue, others don't. Honestly, after playing so many games of SC, I think most competitive players are ready to move on to something new.

Then you add the fact that Blizzard is trying to make SC2 a spectator sport (one that will be more global), which in itself implies it being a more lucrative game, then that really makes it a no-brainer.

Unless your comp specs aren't up to par, or SC2 ends up sucking... it will be time to move on.

Not every one plans on being a top player, so the community would never die over money alone.

Back to the main topic: Only Dinot would prob qualify as a "rising star." Just as JF was years ago.
