BO timings (592 reads, 10 replies)
Okay, I just did a few tests on iccup for the fun of it. I measured the how fast some things were compared to others.

Rushes:
4pool: I had my first 6lings out at 1min 50sec. However, if you do 4pool and drone scout it might be hard to get exactly 150minerals when spawning pool is done and one ling pair might be a few seconds off. But this is with no scout.
5pool: First lings out at 1min 57sec. This does allow you to scout well with one drone however without delaying any lings.
Note: I just did both tests ONCE, and did not take account for mineral positioning or anything like that, so this is more an estimation. I heard once that 5pool would be faster than 4pool, which is why I tested this.
Conclusion:4pool is slightly faster, and when rushing seconds often count. I would prefer the 4pool, even if I go drone scout since the six lings will be out faster than 5pool anyway, and a macro edge is not what you're looking for anyway. How much 7 seconds is in game can be discussed, but it might be the difference between getting scouted or not. All tests done on andromeda.

12hatch builds
Minerals to the left:Using the move larvae to the left trick. Using 12drone scout. Expansion hatchery finished at 3min 03sec.
Minerals to the right: Ie not using the move larvae trick. 12drone scout. Expansion hatchery finished at 3min 04sec.
8lord 12hatch BO: Minerals to the left, 12drone scout, expansion hatch finished at 3min 04sec.
Bad split: Minerals to the left, 12drone scout, sent initial 4 drones to same patch and let AI split them, later drones sent to optimal patches. Expansion hatch finished at 3min 03sec.
9drone scout: Right side, 9drone scout, good split. Expansion hatch finished at 3min 04sec.
Note: Once again only done once for each test, so quite large error margins. Also done only on andromeda. The bad split example was "well handled" by the computer which explains the good figures, and the rest of the drone production was flawless, nevertheless interesting. I also once heard that 8lord BO would be as fast as 12hatch. Also, different positions on andromeda (not just left/right) might have affected result.
Conclusion: Apparently the split or doing 8lord instead of 9lord or 9drone scout affects the timings very little. Shoud be noted though that 9drone scout will affect your macro later than when the 12hatch is started. Also, some of these figures show that there is no difference at all. There is a difference, it's just that it's smaller than the error margins.

Nice, now if you had the time it took to go to the other players base, and the timing of other BOs of other race, then that would make the viability of different strats vs other strats easier to analyze.

Very cool idea.

#1, true. But for example when going 12hatch in zvz vs a 9pool, every single second counts, literally. Then a good split and every small trick will be important. But as the differences appear to be so small, it's only in conditions like that it seems to matter.

On the other hand, that early in the game you usually got nothing better to do than to maximise the efficiency of your workers, so even it's just 0.5sec it still nothing wasted and some gained.

#5 its selecting your larvae and an overlord then pressing the stop button, and they will move to the left side of your hatchery, which sometimes positions them closer to the mineral line.

Interesting with the 4p/5p, but I agree, 4pool ownz :P

9 drone scout between 12 drone scout is HUGE difference.

There are some not so popular builds like 3hatch fast hive , that require very fast lair . This means gas at 13 , even before 3rd hatch.

If u do 9 drone scout this build won`t work cuz ur eco will be destroyed. Or 20 seconds delayed lair to get the same eco as with 12 drone.

It takes 20 seconds more to mine 350 minerals than with 12 dron scout ^^

Some timings I know

ZvP -

Straight +1 - 9 zealots ( 4 coming ) - 6:50 - 7:10 ( depends on zerg opening)

You can`t make 5 hydra hatch ie then ^^

Many ppl just go 'how they feel like' and its hilarious when their +1 push is 30 seconds late ... useless

+1 with corsair - 7:40 - 8:10

You can go 5 hatch mass hydra ez

ZvT

- After 13 gas 3 hatch build - mutas at 6:40-6:50 ( already harrasing )
Defiler - 10:00 minute

- Normal 16 gas 3 hatch - mutas at 7:00 - 7:30
Defiler -12:00 minute

someone should make a UMS ver of popular maps that has a timer and you can reset and kill all units and start a new base whereever you choose

and let there be obs

that would be the ultimate tool for theorycraft

Also people would be like "Dude I can get 6 ling at your base at 2:40, pwned"
"Nah man I can handle your 6ling with my FE build 60% when I'm at this position but at this position i only can handle it 40%"
People would be analyzing their opponent in CW saying
"This guy has bad macro and pushes out of 1barrack FE 14 seconds slower than average player, so I cheat an extra hatch in and still match his units, ez win"
