oh the backstab! (701 reads, 14 replies)
im playing my friend

casual game on python. i go 1 rax cc while he goes 12 hatch 11 pool.
he makes much more lings than normal and i am not aggressive in fear of zergling flanks. everything goes fine and the mutas come.

if you have replay with text you will see that there was a lot of lag spikes and laggyness that actually made me forget the mutalisk timing and i built my turets late. i hold the mutas off alrite anyway and i move out with some forces when i feel that the mutas are too weak to do anything anyway. i move towards his third base and the zerg actually does an all-in backstab with lurks lings and left over mutas into my natural and wih so few forces im forced to counter his base but my army is too small.

i really have no idea what i am supposed to do to be able to go expo hunting while not having fear of all-in backstabs.

replay:

Better being noob than an idiot, #1. :<
I'll watch rep and comment later if needed.
Edit. Ok I watched the rep and sorry to say but you were going to die even if you wouldnt have attacked the zerg exp.
You didnt have even close to enough scvs -> not enough units and your macro wasnt that great either.
Work on your macro and dont forget to make scvs nonstop at early game.

a ground army backstab can easily be avoided by sending 1 or 2 scvs in different direction from the one your army is going. If you forgot to do this and your army is already out you can simply scan there. Scanning his army is anyway a must, you have to know where it is

ya a frequent problem with players is going FE and then not hotkeying their cc.

You need good macro with FE, so you can push out in a timely manner. Unit management and making decisions about timing and where to position units on map is not going to be the same every game and it differs player to player really.

I don't play terran much, but when I do, I find that a reserve of units at home can be instrumental. Lets say ... maybe 2 bats and 2 marines, a bunker, 2 turrets, and a siege tank on high ground. That, while unable to stop a full on attack, can stop a small stabs, and will soften bit attacks a lot, giving your army enough time to get home.

Also, like everyone said, if you just had more units, it would have been great

backstab is when a friend betrays you
this I think is simply an all in counter attack

Yeah, I was confused as hell for awhile about how you could have been backstabbed in a 1v1, lol.

Bunkers at your choke/nat or wherever the units are coming from, and just leave some units back there. And when you push out, just check around the perimeter to make sure his units are setup ready for a flank or anything like that. EZ :D lol

Not so long ago I made a thread about this.

You even answered it

"scan more and get a good recon of where his army is with scvs or something. PROVOKE A BATTLE AND WIN. THEN GO TO HIS EXPO"
