To Macro or Not To Macro Is The Question (607 reads, 7 replies)
Alright, I wanna start this thread just cause I've been getting asked a lot by some people I'm helping improve about when to Macro and when to focus on their battles. An it's made me start to think and to second guess. I just wanna see what the communities thoughts are on the subject.

Like what and when should a player pay attention to the battle, as each race. I'm sure that it differs between people, and skill level.

My thoughts would be to focus on the battle when;

For Terran

TvP
- Sieging because placement is huge for your tanks. One bad placement can cost a game.
- Mine placement, because that always effects the battle.
- Controlling your Vultures to kill off all his Zealots.

TvT
- Once again Sieging.
- Once again Mine placement.
- Goliath targeting to shoot down any of the drop ships he has.

TvZ
- Killing off unburrowed/burrowing Lurkers
- Irradiating Ultralisks and Defilers
- Microing your Marines & Medics out of Swarms and away from Lurker Spines.

For Protoss

PvP
- The placement of your Psionic Storms
- Reaver targeting for trying to gain an advantage using Splash Damage on grouped Dragoons
- Dragoon targeting for picking off Shuttles/Reavers/High Templars

PvT
- Once again Psionic Storms
- Once again Reaver targeting
- Placement for Stasis Field on Siege Tank groups
- Dropping Zealot bombs, as well High Templars

PvZ
- Once again Psi Storms
- Dragoon targeting against Lurkers
- Archon/Zealot targeting against Ultralisks

For Zerg

ZvP
- Dodging Psionic Storms
- The placement and burrowing of Lurkers
- Hydralisk targeting for High Templars/Corsairs/Archons
- The placement of your Plagues

ZvT
- The placement for your Dark Swarms and Plagues
- Once again Lurker Placement and burrowing
- Picking off Science Vessels with Scourge
- Targeting of Siege Tanks

ZvZ
- Movement of Zerglings to ensure most Zerglings are attacking at all times from all angles
- Microing/Targeting your Mutalisks against opponents Scourge/Mutalisks/Hydralisks (Vise Verse for Hydralisks Army)
- Targeting your Scourge against his Mutalisks/Scourge

This is my thoughts on the matter. I might have missed a few things I just got off a 7 day straight run of work and I'm tired =P.

I think that if you are not doing what is said above in the match-up that you are in, that you should be Macroing. If your not, then your wasting time watching a battle the computer is fighting.

I'd love to have people's input on my thoughts. Cause I know a lot of people like to watch a battle for too long, wondering if there is anything more I can do, or they fiddle with units when it's not necessary.

You can still siege you tanks in correct position and macroing, even laying mines. Ex : 1i click , 4t5t6v7v8v 1i click

Yeah, you wanna do that. You can't just sit looking at your base and expect to win, if you only go off when you hear that your under attack. Though, Scourge against Dropships isn't really part of battles, more so one of those things that you do between Macroing and Battling.
