Random Split (434 reads, 13 replies)
MEH yeah just been playing random for fun vs my friend lately and was wondering if there was a trick to splitting good when going random cause obviously you dont know if you should hit SD, S, or P and its quite a reach from s to p.

So...if you know any tricks or that i just need to practice it and just hope for the best the info would be appreciated :)

hold your hand spread, on P and S. Then, if u get T, press S, if Z, S, and switch to D in no time, if P, just press P.
For me its rather easy, tho, since german bw hotkeys: Protoss: S; Terran: W; Zerg: LD (tho, drones always spawn in a certain way, same with larvas, you can easily select a larva in the middle down of the hatch in no time, so only D is enough).

hit SD

66% > 33%

1/3 the time you will be 1/10 of a second slower

life is tough

Or on any level. The split second difference doesn't matter at all.

The thing that can matter however is how you feel as you play. Starting with a good split gives you confidence moving into the game and a trust of your micro etc.

When you completely mess up a split frustration can mount, especially in weaker players, and cause a game loss.

It only matters if you let it.

Split matters a lot, lets say that u split your probes and 1 probe goes around to the back of a mineral patch, and another probe floats though, in and around another mineral patch. Fucks up your timing big time.

I split this way and Im almost enough fast to split them correct.

Mark all with my mouse then just order them to work then hold shift and LMB on unit in the bottom window then "unhold" shift and send 3 units left for another mineral then hold shift and LMB on unit in the bottom window then "unhold" shift and send 2 units left for another mineral then hold shift and LMB on unit in the bottom window then "unhold" shift and send 1 units left for another mineral. And I wonder if there is any faster way to split them?

yeah, as lml described, that's good way to hold your index on p and ring on s and then just hit p or s or sd xD

I just send all 4, then make groups of 2 and 2, split first group of two and then the second group.

#11:everybody has its own way of doing splits o.o;
As for my split:I select nexus, click p, select all probes, send them on mineral and I click on one of them, send that probe to another mineral and repeat that until I've got splitted them all ;o
Works in fast rapid action so I would not recommend for those who have sloow mouse and/or slow hand
