Mass Hydra in ZvT (763 reads, 21 replies)
Yesterday I played a game on BS. As you can see I`m a Z user and my opponent was T. We both started quite standart. FE against FE. The unussual thing was that I`ve grab my mineral only exp too. Prevented him from scouting and made Hydra den with one evo. Fast speed for hydra and +1 attack right after the evo was finished. A minute after made a second evo +1 armor. Made another hatchery and by the time he attacked me I was 1/1 ground, started 2nd lvl. First attack he won but had very few left from his army and due to my strong eco and 5 halls I managed to pump out 3x12 more hydras + 12 more comming. The terran just didn`t knew how to react. He made second fact and start pumping tanks but I grabbed another expo and made +1 extra hall. He`s forces were just eaten by my 2/2 hydra. What do you think about that strat? I know I have allot to develop in it, timing etc but I think it`s quite effective if you can suprise him. There is probably nor one terran in the world that will expect mass hydra ... I`m sorry that I`m not uploading a replay. It`s just that I`m at work and the game is at home. If I find it tonight I`ll upload it. I also realise the fact that my opponent was around C-/C but I want to try it against more skilled player a few times. So leave comments and suggestions pls. Thanks

the only way you can surprise them with hydras is if they go for a mass wraith build.. pretty much any standard tvz unit choice beats hydras, so it doesn't matter if you surprise him or not. pure m&m beats hydras, m&m with tanks even more.. the only way to win is if you are way better and just outmacro him.

It appears that you`r wrong. I also thought that way but it appeared I was wrong too. I just owned his mnm/siege/vessel. Irradiate just wont work... so the only thing he used was DM. It`s proven +1attack Hydra > MnM. What about +1/1 and +2/2 then... I`l upload it tonight. As I said my opponent wasn`t so skilled and I was just wondering what do you ppl think of that strat. The idea came from and old replay on Neo Vortex Testie played but I can`t remember who. There He used dual evos mass hydra and just raped the terran. I want to try it few more times and see if it realy works. But don`t be 100% sure that hydra < mnm

you cant with with mass hydra against FE cause terran will get 2 scanners and see what you are doing, 3-4 rax with fast +1 is also too common for it to work, 3-4 hatch hydras wasnt too uncommon back in the days tho when terran FE wasnt standard

I've done this before 4 hatch hydra 2x chamber + den start ups than speed get 40 drones or so whatever add queens+ensare it works, but it wont beat a good Terran player

No , it works , i did it many times .

I always did it with my third hacth as fast expansion hidden in a mineral only spot. Drone abusing , add 4th hatch in main and pump mass gling speed and drones (take your second gas asap)while upgrading +1 +1 . U should have always 2 x more troops than a terran of the same level of you. After the first attack that u should be able to win easy ( lets say a batlle of 15/25 mm vs 3or 4 groups of hydra) then u add lurkers with a ratio of 10% lurks , 90 % hydras.
Add hatcheries , drones and expands and after u went to 2-2 upgrade u are nearly undefeatable.

Of course if u play vs very good terrans ( after c+/b- ranks) i doubt that it is effective. But i never reached more than c/c+ with zerg so i cant tell , maybe aif would be as effective with a very good zerg.

Gorush used a kind of similar build , i think it was in proleague final last year . He lost because he made terrible mistakes end game but he was ahead during 70% of the game.

I didn`t used a single lurk. As a matter of fact I even didn`t made the upgrade. But the thing with the queens is a good one. I have to learn to use them more often.

Yes, mass hydras are very annoying to play against. Standard MnM wouldn't do against them.

agreed but more or less it all depends on who use them XP and who their opponent is, i use it from time to time when i play zerg, its still quite fun to use though

terran doesn't even need tanks to beat mass hydras lol, if he only notices with 8 or 10 barracks he will pump out a dreadful army in no time, only way a T can lose to them if they went fast vessels before adding production facilities, or if you surprise him with no defences early on.
As a T user I can tell you I almost never lose vs mass hydras

Oh and I forgot, mass hydras can be owned not only by pure M&M, but also by a standard barracks count + 2 or 3 factories early on, ignoring starport tech

you can't do that bo with only 2 gas. you will have too few hydras when he contains you with m&m. you can make double exp against 1-rack --> exp 4 hatch into hydra if you deny any scouts but if you get exposed you're fucked=)

It can be done... Hydras don`t need that much gas. By the time terran has 10 raks he will be a deadman.

works once in a while as a surprise but its not a secure strat to use
better to add a few lurkers and maybe queens.

If you go to www.iccup.com and play on their server, you'll find out.

You start off as a D (1000 points I believe).
If you beat someone, you win points. If someone beats you, you lose points. I don't know how many depending on how many points you had when you started the game (ie a 1000 point gamer beating a 10000 point).

Higher ranks are higher points. You can be a D- if you lose too much, but then you can just make another account.

ya, against some people it will work even if they c it coming against more skilled players u must surprise, but a good player can ezly crush ur force wit mass tanks and DM, so i would say dont stick to it cuz it wont get u 2 far
